What dashcam
My at least 10year old dashcam has developed a fault and I suspect that even if repairable it will be cheaper to buy a new one.
Not having a smartphone I'm looking for a basic one with a a rear camera plus the basic features like impact recording whilst parked and a reasonably large touch screen to replace the old fiddly buttons.
Advice on any to be avoided welcomed as well as suggestions for suitable ones to buy.

The most important thing to look for is buffered parking mode. Without that they only start recording a few seconds after the impact, which is obviously of little use if they immediately drive off.I've been looking for some recently and there aren't many options that have that. The best seems to be Viofo. They have a fish eye interior camera that is separate from the main unit too, which will catch people damaging your doors when they open theirs. But they are really expensive. If you budget doesn't stretch that far then look for one with low bitrate or low frame rate recording in parking mode.2

Viofo an BlackView are the top end, the former has overall better image quality, the latter more tech, battery packs in the range, auto upload etc., however neither are cheap.
It will really come down to how much you are willing to spend, £500+ you can have everything, £100 your options are much more limited.1 -
Have a look at Red Tiger F7NP, quality camera and good value. Will do the job of dash cams twice the price.Mortgage free

Sadly the REDTIGER ones have two major limitations. Parking mode has no buffered mode, and the interior camera is not very wide angle so won't protect you from door dingers.1

Which recomend Nexbase iQ4k, (83%), next is Garmin X310,(80%), then Nextbase 622GW (73%)......."It's everybody's fault but mine...."1

Which rarely know what they are talking about when it comes to technology. Garmin in particular is overpriced crap.2

So glad I found this thread, I am looking for a dashcam at the moment so will avoid Garmin (which Which recomend).0

Yes, I sometimes find the Which recommendations very frustrating. They recommend a product, but when you go online and look at the actual customer reviews they tell a completely different story..but I suppose it does give a good starting point??.."It's everybody's fault but mine...."0
