Either save up so you do have enough to pay each month on the 27th, or ask the agent if you can have your contract changed to pay on the 1st of each month. This might involve an admin fee.

Why on earth did you sign a contract to pay rent on the 27th when you haven't got money to pay the rent in this date???

Probably because his previous landlord was okay with him paying after he was paid.

We are a month in for our New Rental and the contract states rent to be paid to letting agent on the 27th but I don’t always get paid at that time. It’s normally the last working day. I deal with LL for house but agent in terms of rent/contract. I did contact them via email asking if this would be an issue. But no reply. Could this cause an issue at all do you think. My old place where I was there 10 years never had an issue. They use to send invoice and then I paid end of month. With no issues as that’s when I’m paid.
When does the tenancy month run from? Your obligation is for the rent to be paid when it's due, the contract can say earlier, but I'm not sure it is enforceable. The agent may want the rent earlier to then pass onto the landlord.

I doubt you can be evicted for paying a day or two late, by the time it reached court you would have paid it. A section 8 for rental arrears can only be issued when you owe 2 months rent - so the day the rent is due having already been a month in arrears, but if that is cleared by the court date the notice fails.

I would just be honest with your landlord and tell then what you have written here.

    Sounds an unsavoury arrangement.

Just put the money aside on pay day so you always have it on the 27.
How do you plan to do that if they don't get paid until after the rent is due?

Their salary comes in on the 29th and goes straight out (late) for rent, not many have the cashflow to put another months rent away until the 27th comes around again.

@Tabieth and @Flugelhorn both of your suggestions assume the OP has sufficient extra funds to put another months rent away and not touch it.

The OP being utterly !!!!!! at budgeting isn't the landlords issue. They signed a contract, fully aware of the terms, its frankly shocking they have made it this far into adulthood without encountering responsibility but its not just OP, EVERYONE that rents has to pay rent on time... regardless of when we get paid.

We have a separate bank account that every month only rent automatically transfers to on payment day so it cannot go out or be accidentally spent... as an adult you are suppose to have 3-6 months rent in savings for basic emergencies, if you don't your really living way above your means and shouldn't have signed up to a payment contract you had no way or intention of upholding.
This feels a little bit harsh! Yes in an ideal world everyone would be in a position to have several months worth of money saved up for a rainy day, but the reality is that a good proportion of people these days are struggling to get by month to month. Not always because they are !!!! at budgeting, or irresponsible, but maybe they started their adult life with nothing, and are trying to get by in a world where the cost of living and renting compared to average entry level salaries don't really match up well.

OP it might be worth having a word with your landlord and asking if they are happy for you to pay on 1st of every month, and then over the next few months work on trying to build up enough savings in your bills account so that you are able to pay the next month's rent out of this month's wages.

But it’s not about having “several months” of money saved up. It’s about being able to manage one month’s pay. In other words, being able to earmark one’s rent money and set it aside on payday. The date one gets paid and pays the rent / mortgage shouldn’t matter if a person can budget for just one month.

It does matter if you get paid at the end of the month and are using that money to pay your rent.

Yes, and I'm not agreeing that it is OK to expect to pay late routinely, but I can understand how OP may have found themselves in this situation. If their last place rent was due 1st of month and they were paying out of their wages paid end of the month before, but then they moved to a new place, with a week overlap, they would have already paid a month's rent on 1st of the month for the old place, and then their new rent would be due before their next wages paid, meaning that unless they had managed to save up enough beforehand, they'd not have enough until payday. Added to that they probably had to find extra to cover the deposit, and wouldn't get the last deposit back until a few weeks later.

For some people more fortunate, they will have enough money put aside to be fine in that scenario, but I feel it is a bit unnecessary to call them irresponsible and !!!! at budgeting simply because they are struggling financially. Empathy is a great thing.

No, it doesn’t matter. The majority of people 1) get paid monthly and 2) pay their rent / mortgage monthly. The dates those monies come in and out don’t matter as only one lot on rent/mortgage comes out each month.

Offer 5 days rent on the 27th, then ask to start paying a full month on the 1st.
