Correct there is no registration fee and the ATT insurance also comes out of the fees on the window fee basis which with that and the VAT takes it to around 50 to 60% mark,MyRealNameToo said:
They will get their money if they win the case, and from those that abandon the claim mid process. Never seen any charging a registration fee and ATE insurance is often self insured (ie its only payable if you win or withdraw)Grey_Critic said:Does not stop them advertising and require you to pay some registration fee/insurance premium. Well they’re not really scams are they if a court decides there’s compensation or a company settles out of court then that is legally binding.sheenas said:They are basically us style scams that can go on for years. Legal firms typically canvass people to join their claim tempting them with the promise of large payouts. The legal firms make money and you might get some of it. It’s often worth the target companies paying out to make the claim go away. In the case of Mastercard they settled for 200m. Claimants could get £70 even if they didn’t have a Mastercard, yes go figure that one.
And it’s not like it’s not already happened before is it? Volkswagen have already settled. There’s plenty of information about it on this website but my query was specifically about the BMW of which there doesn’t seem to be any information on this websiteThe greatest prediction of your future is your daily actions.0 -
You mean as opposed to information on an internet formum ?Isthisforreal99 said:The mere fact you saw it on social media should tell you all you need to know.Well, I know quite a bit about social media marketing. Its costs companies a lot of money to place those adverts on staff the call centres that follow up, so they must think they have a chance to recover that somehowThe greatest prediction of your future is your daily actions.0 -
do you have a source for this information, I can’t find it anywhere on the Internet did you possibly just read it on twick twok?paul_c123 said:Wasn't there a case where someome tried one of these "no win no fee" claims against BMW, they asked for proof it was a Euro 5 by asking for the CoC and also tagged on a substantial counterclaim for legal time spent/etc, the rubbish legal firm messed up and the original complainant was out of pocket by a few hundred £££?The greatest prediction of your future is your daily actions.0 -
And it's precisely that "settles out of court" that the ambulance-chasers are hoping for...dont_use_vistaprint said:

Remember, the VW claim all centred around findings of illegality in the US, with US emissions testing rules and US thresholds which, for NOx, were FAR stricter than European.
Nobody - not even VW - has been proven to have broken European law over emissions. BMW certainly haven't. There are similar claims going on for just about every major manufacturer - which, in itself, should tell you all you need to know.3 -
I know what you’re saying, but this is the system we have ….if people feel strongly enough to invest and bring a case and the port decides to settle out of court and that is an admission of guilt you know they could always let it go to court couldn’t they?Mildly_Miffed said:

assuming from most responses that no one here bought an affected BMW? I understand your bias, if anyone here did own an affected BMW, I would be interested in your view….The greatest prediction of your future is your daily actions.0 -
VW used a cheat device for the US market, nobody in the UK was mis-sold as nobody in the UK buys a car for low NOx emissions, car tax is based on CO2 and cars are sold on MPG, you have to hunt to find any NOx figures on car sales. VW were stuck because of grifters demanding compensation for nothing - the cars quickly regained value and nobody in the UK was misled.dont_use_vistaprint said:

There is zero evidence of BMW using any such cheat devices, nor any other manufacturer.
What money back are you expecting - how specifically have you lost out? Would you be willing to pay the manufacturer's costs for dealing with this false lawsuit?Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

All car buyers will pay the costs of dealing with these disingenuous lawsuits, via new car prices.
The manufacturers are not admitting liability - they are simply paying off the ambulance chasers, as it's cheaper to do that than get swamped in the court system for years.1 -

<snip>Everyone will pay the costs spread out, even if it is through another penny on a can of beans in Tesco because someone's company car (or a delivery van) cost a bit more to recoup the payout. The people "responsible" certainly won't pay it all themselves!!Same as fining Thames water a gazillion pounds for pollution crimes. It is the customers who pay the fine, not the directors. The buck stops here (points at self) as they used to say!I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
