I'm after a printer that's cheap to run

I have a black and white Kyocera laser printer which is very cheap to run for the amount of printing I do now (as opposed to when I bought it for business reasons). I need an occasional photo print and have decided to use Boots to get these printed for the time being. Maybe there are even cheaper third parties who will do a colour print.

I'm a little confused by the opinions that laser machines will not print in colour. I looked at several colour options when buying my latest printer but decided on an inkjet purely based on cost and size.0

Why would you avoid HP subscription? I have it and find it’s greatCisco001 said:If you are not printing a lot, you can go for cheap epson/ Canon 3 in 1 printer that takes oem ink cartridges.
If there is a lot of printing, get laser.
P.S. IME colour laser is pricey to buy and fill - possibly because I haven't looked at 'small' ones lately, but we had a couple of small colour lasers at work. They were about twice the size of what I consider a 'domestic' printer, and had four cartridges, each of which cost over £60 to replace. We didn't do a huge amount of printing on those, so didn't need to replace very often, but they were great in our situation where inkjets would have dried up and caused massive frustration.aintreemaid said:I'm a little confused by the opinions that laser machines will not print in colour. For what you want, same as me, I'd suggest the Canon Pixma TS705a. Available from Argos (£60 - 20% with code). Compatible Ink cartridges from Stinkyink. Had mine 3-4 years now and still going strong. Acceptable photos on photo paper.0

I’ve utilised several over the years, settled on HP LaserJets
BUT(importantly) utilise the default ‘out of box’ s/w without undertaking any online upgrade, which allows, due to their T&C’s, blocking of non-OEM cartridges.I utilise Cartridge People “compatiables” which generally work well 👍0 -
Been using the Canon Pixma 3600 series for many years. Last one produced over 11,000 copies before it packed up - until recently I printed several thousand pages every year - Lookalike cartridges and do not do updates. Printer cost £40 from Argos.0

Sounds a bit risky. There's no guarantee they wont have already updated the firmware.Shire_Man said:I’ve utilised several over the years, settled on HP LaserJets
