We watch the quizzes too, shouting out answers, often wrong, but for some reason we both look forward to the quiz season restarting. I'm sure it gets earlier and earlier each year. This afternoon's plans have changed. Belovéd has a grandfather / longcase clock that has never worked, but which is now very broken because one of the cats likes to sleep on top of it and face-planted it when she was newly adopted. Whatever chance there ever was of it working again completely ended with the crash tinkle tinkle tinkle. He's never bolted it to the wall behind it, so it was kind of his own fault. Today there was due to be an auction of grandfather / longcase clocks at the local auction room and we were due to to to the viewing this afternoon and then bid this evening. Only ... the auction was a 11.00 am this morning, and as predicted they went for fluppance. No idea if they worked or not, but it wasn't my mistake so I don't feel guilty. However, she still likes sitting and sleeping up there so to stop it face-planting again it's now leaning against the wall and it irritates me every time I 'clock' it. He now says he can bolt it as advised. At last.I'm sorting through he fridge this afternoon, a job I've been putting off for days.Better is good enough.7

No flying to report today. I just wanted to pop in to let you know about a scam text that A received today. It purported to come from the DWP and said he hadn't registered to receive the winter fuel allowance and asked him to click on a link to do that. He asked me about it and when I looked it was clearly a scam and he deleted it. I thought I would flag it up as although none of you might fall for it you might want to let any elderly people you know who might be taken in know about it.Hope to be back with some flying news soon!7

Morning, I'm having a lazy start to the day, as I'm feeling tired at the moment, I think it's due to the heat. I'm currently sitting outside with my first cuppa of the day.
My list for today
Do paid stuff
Take DD over to the stables so she can put the horse out into the field
Spend an hour organising my new diary
Sort through school stuff that has arrived, get the kids to try things on and pack away until it's needed
Polish the mirrors
Laundry x 1 load
Dust the master bedroom
Hoover the master bedroom
Declutter the top of the drawers in the master bedroom
Take the dog for a long walk
Take DD over the stables so she can exercise her horse and do other tasks that need to be done
I think that is everything that I need to tackle today. I hope everyone has a lovely Wednesday.

Morning all,
Thank you for the warning, CoG. DH had that text twice in the last fortnight so it is obviously doing the rounds.
Yesterday morning was taken up with having my hair cut. My hairdresser most definitely was not in a hurry, so chatted away. I have known her for over 30 years so there is a lot of history there. In the afternoon, I managed to do what is today’s list, changed bedding etc. The plumber is due back at any moment, followed by the plasterer tomorrow, so it will be pointless trying to keep downstairs clean for a couple of days. Plaster dust gets everywhere. I did manage to do some admin in the afternoon - just need to make a final push on the tax return.
The vague plan for today is to go to the allotment and water at least some of it - no rain here to speak of for weeks now. I also need to get back onto the deadheading in the back garden. Then I might tackle the back bedroom which is now a RoD, with DD’s stuff in bags. I need enough space to demolish the ironing pile and finish my sewing off, which will in turn create a bit of space.
Wm is on, kettle is ready for another brew if anyone is interested.7 -
re the scam text
If you get a text or call
Check the number on Who Called Me
report to who called me to build up a picture and report to your mobile provider.
I would post a link but i’m on the ipad and it’s tricky.
As is editing posts….I gave up (see above)

Strands with no hints, Wordle in five and I'm still working on the last two lines of Connections.Bathroom swished and swiped. Fridge dealt with. Chocolate pots made.I sorted through my desk paperwork gibble yesterday and cleared the backlog at last. It's been bothering me for weeks because I knew that the bank reconciliation for May hadn't balanced, and then June didn't either, and I knew that was a separate problem. Both now resolved. Two thank you notes written and despatched, and I've managed to track down the acknowledgement that I did register the air fryer's guarantee last August, so that's another job done.Froggie job on the tomatoes done last night. They're like triffids this year.I have one more Frog to deal with and then I'm caught up on the stuff I really, really don't want to do which has swelled to stupid proportions in my mind..Wren walked and I've texted the dog-walker to say that given Wren's behaviour over the past couple of weeks we should withdraw her from group walks until the re-training has kicked in. She can't be exercised off lead because if she panics she'll bolt, and what panics her is loud bangs, more than anything and they can't be predicted. (Deaf dogs are a lot easier to deal with!) Despite the fact that she's on an extending lead she's been heading into deep water in the river and refusing to come back out, and then when she's finally shore-side, trying to make dens for herself. Poor L, with four or sometimes five dogs then has to untangle Wren's lead from scratchy shrubs while ensuring that the other dogs are safe at the same time. Enough's enough and I've pulled the plug. We had hoped that the pack mentality would help her assimilate but clearly she's decided that she needs to do her own thing.Better is good enough.6
