@KajiKita it’s not much really, a wheel bearing needs replacing and in the future I may need some other bits and pieces. Nothing urgent or noticeable. I’m only fretting about its age (over 11) and future reliability. I don’t really need a car as I work from home and don’t often get chance to go out, but I’m terrified of not having one as I’d feel trapped without it. I absolutely couldn’t share as MrWW would always consider a shared car his and anything that happened to it (eg a stone chip, or the rear view mirror moved out of place) would be my fault, which would lead to arguments as I don’t take blame lightly 😅 New and slightly used cars are so expensive now though, they seem to have shot up and I would have to take a step down in performance and spec to get something a lot newer. Also, I don’t do a lot of mileage so maybe electric is the way to go, but I just really don’t like change and have no idea if I’d regret it! Last time I went from a v8 down to a 3 litre and I feel sad about having to drop to something slower than that. It’s a lot to think about.

Cars are a lot more reliable than they used to be, mine is 17 years old and still going strong (touch wood!).  My last one was almost 20 before I replaced it. I tend to keep mine until the stage where it feels like there's always something wrong with it.  If it's not constantly needing repairing, then is there really a need to replace it now, particularly if you are not driving a lot?

Electric cars are gradually coming down in price, and technology improves all the time.  Waiting a bit longer may mean you don't have to compromise on the performance and spec.  There also may be more incentives for people to make the switch as we get closer to the ban on new ICE cars.

It sounds to me like I would get the wheel bearing done and then wait a while.

Thanks both. I went for a drive today and to fill up and realised how much I love this car. I really do and it’s like new inside, low mileage and I service it every year without fail, so it does run like a dream. It’s silly not to hang on, I will concentrate on saving hard instead of doing anything rash.
It was the first time in about 3 weeks I’ve been away from the pup. I was out maybe 40 minutes, but it must have felt like a long time as she lost her mind when I came back. The screaming of a gsd is something to hear 😂 She was not good for her dad at all.
One of the cats is very miserable today and his chin looks swollen, so maybe an abscess or his teeth in general. So one of us will take him to the vet tomorrow. Possibly MrWW will do it as I’m working and he isn’t. The cat does not travel well so it will be traumatic. We’d normally go mob handed, but WWpup can’t really be left.
I’ve had a nice day of not cooking. MrWW wanted beans on toast, so I had toast and jam for tea and then a blackcurrant split lolly.
I hope you’ve all had a good day.
