I would have thought if it was a clear S&H hazard every stay wire would have been fitted with them by now.molerat said:Surely those stays should be fitted with the bright yellow guards, they are a clear health and safety hazard without them.Where there is a possibility of contact with the public or traffic they should be fitted, every one round here that is accessible has them - one reason why I thought it would be the norm and is a clear consideration in the Electricity North West guidance. https://www.enwl.co.uk/globalassets/get-connected/cic/icpsidnos/g81-policy/policy-library-documents/overhead-lines/cp420-part-1/cp420-pt1-ch07.pdfIn certain locations it may be beneficial to increase the visibility of a stay. A public highway or footpath.
A hedge, or other vegetation, that is likely to be maintained (eg trimmed).
In these situations, a yellow stay marker shall be fitted over the stay to highlight its position.

I am now of the mind that this becomes more and more difficult - not impossible if you throw enough "£'" at it.
The line going to the left looks to be 3 wire 240 - 0 - 240 volt and runs a couple of spans to a pole next to the white flagpole? which I think has an 11,000 volt line on the top.
It all looks quite sloppy, long overdue for replacement. It all looks like knitting.
This brings back lots of memories of 30/40 years ago.
Agree with fitting the yellow protection - a small gesture for Northern.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
I can understand in certain circumstances and expect if there were loads of people being garotted in gardens by these wires it would be compulsory.molerat said:HillStreetBlues said:

Let's Be Careful Out There0 -
sorry for being quiet on here for a long time and I appreciate everyones help.
I had an inspector from northern power come out to view - he said to me at the time that he agrees this is a health and safety issue and he will put his review to his director to advise of such - 2 weeks later I received an email from Northern Power - stating the complete opposite. They advised the best they could do would be to put a fence around the wire (essentially blocking the walkway to the outhouse in the garden and a section of the grass.I explained this would not be ideal, that I actually have ring doorbell footage of their investigator saying the opposite to her and that the wires are well overdue a full inspection and replacement etc (worded properly of course) she replied saying she was closing the case as there's nothing more they can do.
1 Month later she sends an email out of the blue advising the below:"Good morning
Firstly, I must thank you for your patience to date.
I have given the scheme and the inspectors findings further consideration. Although the comments provided to you from our inspector were not helpful, the assets are not unsafe and were present when you purchased the property.
In an effort to move matters ahead we can either provide fencing to limit access to the base of the stay wires. Alternatively, we can look at replacing the terminal pole with a steel pole however this would need to be positioned within your garden as it needs to be installed 1m from the existing poles position. This option is subject to overhead survey to ascertain that the overhead spans can accommodate this proposal, as well as you covering your own disconnection and reconnection costs.
I can raise a request on my return-to-work next week for the survey and following that will issue my report recommending diversion with an element of customer funded works. You would then be provided with a no obligation quotation, and it would be your decision whether you wished to proceed.
Can you please confirm whether this is something you wish to explore."
I have asked her to go ahead with this so I can view the survey findings first, I have a feeling they may just be using this as a way to make me pay for something that needed doing anyways?
