PayPal removed my buyer protection

I received an email from service@paypal.com a few days ago basically giving me a warning that my account has been flagged for opening too many cases with them. Yesterday the current case I have opened was closed in the sellers favour. Reason - “buyer not eligible for buyer protection”. This is despite me providing a crime ref no and significant amounts of evidence to show I didn’t receive the items I ordered. I have appealed the case but from the conversations I’ve had with call centre staff in the Philippines it doesn’t sound like the appeal will work at this point. They’re also unable to tell me if/when I’ll get the buyer protection back. Has anyone experienced this before? The case that I’m appealing is worth over £1000.00 so it’s quite a significant amount of money to lose due to PayPal removing my buyer protection midway through the case review..,

You’re too much of risk for them so they have made a business decision.2 -
Is it permanent? It’s really not clear at all. I’ve spoke to 4 agents in the Philippines who were clear as mud as to what’s happening with my account now0

No, it's not permanent.
They will still let you use PayPal.
Problem is you need to get to less than 1% for a reinstatement (or less than 5% and you can request a review).
Obviously you'll have to make quite a few transactions now to get the % down as you are currently at 28% and you won't have protection on those transactions so stick to buying from known safe outlets that accept paypal like Argos, Royal Mail, etc.
Not Facebook marketplace etc..
I'm not sure if the 1% is number of transactions or value. The latter might be an issue if all the items with issues where £1k.
You might also have problems selling (if you do) as buyers trying to pay by paypal get a pop-up warning them that you are not 'paypal verified' even if you have previously completed the verification process.

I’ve seen this a few times , it used to pop up more when PayPal was used on eBay as of course there were many more regular users then. I’m Surprised there wasn’t a previous soft warning though , or was there? From memory the usual thing was for PayPal to send a warning that the system had flagged an abnormal use of buyer protection which gave the buyer time to consider what to do going forward. I can’t recall it being standard that buyer protection was withdrawn after a purchase, as by then it’s too late to reconsider a potentially dodgy purchase or seller.Incidentally it’s the same on eBay, I’ve seen the buyer guarantee being removed from buyers and being discussed on forums several times, which as a seller is always why I report any buyers I get that I think are missing the system to gain a refund.EDIT to add, we’re all the cases opened on PayPal or did you go via your bank for any of them as PayPal really don’t like buyers going to the bank to do a chargeback .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
