I've only ever head horror stories about them. Though that doesn't mean all Whisky investments are bad, unless you're very knowledgable about both the product and the investment, I'd stay clear.

No. You’d do better to buy shares in Diageo. That might not be a low risk investment either but at least you know you’ll be able to sell them easily.

If you are a multimillionaire and have all your other investment covered go for it for some novelty.  If not avoid, avoid, avoid.

Whisky is going through a torrid time at the moment , far too much stock for distilleries to get rid of.

Only worth it if you know the whisky market well. Fees add up, resale is hard, and many casks are overpriced.

Unless on has specialist knowledge of the industry I'd confine whisky to something to have an extra measure of when more mainstream investments do very well or very poorly.

Seen advertised on Facebook or Instagram? Far too many scams are being advertised online so unless you know exactly what you are doing it's one to avoid. Have you already maxed your pension and S&S ISAs?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

In principle they could be but many adverts have been for barrels that at best are grossly overvalued and at worst dont even exist. So you have to make sure who you are buying from as well as knowing your stuff about what's likely to appreciate and what's grossly overpriced.

Unless you want a highly risky buy that could end up as a total loss you are probably better buying shares of a whiskey company than speculating on barrels.

Yes, they could be.  However, the definition or context of rare will vary.    It also has to be genuinely rare and of genuine quality—the sort of stuff you don't find being advertised on social media or websites.
