Hi,
I had a non fault claim I think 4 or 5 years ago.
I need to look round for my new insurance.
My insurance company Yoga will not tell me how long ago the claim was.
They say I need to find out from my previous insurer.
I've been with yoga for the last 3 years & before them it was more-than , who now don't do car insurance so they can't help me.
So when I ask around for a quote I have no idea if this claim was 4,5,or 6 years ago.
Does anyone know what I can do to get this info.
Thanks.

any clues available on credit card bills or similar?  I'm thinking that you might have had to pay an excess or something to the garage or needed to rent a car which was then reimbursed?

then again - you must have told yoga how long ago it was when you first went with them.  they should be able to provide you with your previous insurance documents.  Or they might have emailed them to you so the info will be on there??

They say there’s a wait of  to up to 28 days, which may be too late for you.

Does your reveal notice not have the details of the claim? If it doesn't, and if you declared it when you took the policy out, that implies that it was more years ago than Yoga ask about, however long that is (generally between 3 and 5). Which would also explain why Yoga no longer hold the data.

You could also check last year's renewal notice - if you still have it.

Ultimately there are plenty of insurers who only ask if you've had an accident or claim in the last three years (from memory this includes Admiral, Direct Line and Hastings) so if you are confident that it was more than 3 years ago you could always restrict your search to those insurers and not worry about declaring it.

Did you take any photos at the time of the accident? Could a search of those help? Or a search in your email account for your registration number, or the words 'car accident'. Even if it's an email to a friend mentioning the accident, for example, that might help you narrow it down.

As I said it must have been about 5 years ago & to be honest I can't even remember what it was for.
All I know is they say there is a claim from a previous insurer which is definitely older than 4 years & my last insurer has no info as they no longer insure cars.
Surely if they say I have a previous claim they must have the info about it.
When my renewal comes around there is no info on any paperwork about old claims.

Do some archaeology.  Paper diaries, if you use them.  Old emails.  Old on-line calendars.  Paper invoices etc. from the repair company.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Look at last years renewal or your online papers, if they offer such a facility. You'd expect the declared date of the incident to be appearing on the schedule assuming it was less time ago than their cut off.

ive been in touch with them & they have told me they have no way of finding out when i claimed & it only shows that there is still an outstanding claim. this sounds like they just dont want me to move to another company as surely they must have a claim date somewhere.

They'll have whatever you provided them when you took the policy out.

But, then, you should also have a copy of that in your paperwork... right?
