Compensation for lost item sent Royal Mail Tracked 48

Options
Hi all,

I sent off a claim about 2 months ago for an item I sent which got lost in the post. I paid RM Tracked 48 to send it.

I completely forgot about the claim but got an email this morning saying they would send me 8 x 1st class stamps as this was the maximum I could claim.

The item was sold for £27.99 - worth about £40 and it was about £4 I paid for RM Tracked 48.

Is this right because I am sure I read it was up to £150 if the item got lost but I could be imagining it.

Best,

Go back to them and appeal- there seems to be massive issues at the moment with RM compensation claims.

It must also just be worth checking your item was eligible as well, although when one of mine was refused a few months ago they told me it was because it wasn't eligible- and I had to appeal and show them their own T and cs which confirmed it was an eligible item.

I am going to stop eBaying soon for good. Things change each time I log in. The other day it had this thing where I have to get a label from the PO if I sell anything. I never signed up to it.

RM seem to be very sneaky too. I saw some other posts where people were saying they were not getting responses from claims. To be honest, if they hadn't emailed me this morning, I would never have remembered.

    Thanks soolin.

Simple delivery may well have worked in your favour here as if the item had sold via SD then it wouldn't be your problem if it didn't arrive, ebay would refund out of their own pocket, no more need to wade through the RM claim system. I've had one item lost with SD, I got paid as normal and ebay do all the fussing around with claims.

Simple delivery is perhaps one of the most recent talked about changes - there's a merged thread here:

eBay simple delivery (merged) - Page 41 — MoneySavingExpert Forum

originally 'all' items from private sellers were going to be switched to SD at some point back in April, since then the time frame has slipped and some exemptions have bene brought in for certain LL items.

Incidentally for SD you don't have to use a QR code, you can continue to print your own labels off from the label option that ebay give as an alternative.

Yep, if it's eBay's forced simple delivery, they'll cover loss or damage. I'm beginning to think it could come back to haunt them.  I bet they're not so interested when people have an issue though.

As i said I have had one loss with SD, I had no issues whatsoever getting ebay to sort it out, no effort on my part at all.

Did they get to keep the money and the item.  Or was it returned to you ? I once sent an item that arrived back to me 4 months later it had been mike's but the label was obliterated but it somehow got back to me.

Item never moved through tracking, so buyer got a refund and I got my money released. All that mattered for me to be protected is that item showed the courier had ‘accepted’ it .

no doubt someone else got the parcel or it’s sitting in the hub still.

    Best,

It's value was what you sold it for - £27.99 - which should be your claim, not £40.  You can only claim for your loss plus the cost of postage.
I agree with others that you need to go back to RM and appeal, but don't cloud the issue by trying to claim the higher figure.
