I am seeing some online commentary recently about a change to the State Pension effective 1st August.  Something about a flat rate £549 for anyone over 60 (obviously who fit the criteria, NI contributions, residency etc) instead of having to wait to 66 or 67....  Please tell me that this is legitimate and applicable to Northern Ireland and not just UK mainland ??  Please please?  also can you still work a couple of days per week and claim this pension.  Desperately hoping that this is legit as I am burned out at 61 with full time work.  Thank you

    Total nonsense, I'm afraid.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Wow!!  Where on earth did you see this!?!  I can't imagine it's real, sorry.  There's more cutting back of benefits going on so it would be an incredible long shot to increase them.

Careful, don't poke the "Pensions aren't a benefit" crowd  :#

Agree with the others here - I've searched for any August 1st uplift, can't find a thing.

OH my - found an article about it.  I've read through it quickly looking for the other shoe to fall and find a button to register and provide bank details or some other scam type thing.  But no.  But I still don't think it's real.

Ah yes I did find this, but it had the feel of being absolute guff so I didn't bother to mention.

Also found this, but this publication spouts so much clickbait nonsense. It's also full of "could"s

Good find, but what an incredibly weird post on what is otherwise a seemingly useful website. I wonder if someone was having fun on their last day at work.

Edit: the same post copy is here: https://clostridia.net/549-week-state-pension-for-over-60s-starts-august-2025-full-eligibility-and-claim-process-explained/

This site calls it a proposal, and I assume someone has misinterpreted that along the way: https://www.tlcmanchesterkids.com/new-28500-universal-state-pension-dwp-proposal-2025/

thanks Brie and Booneruk - I felt like it was a scam too.  still feel very dubious but that is why I thought I would come on here to ask if I am not totally losing it LOL!!  I suppose only time will tell - or when Martin Lewis comes on tv to tell us that it is all a fairytale!!  in the meantime I shall live in hope
