This is my recipe... always comes out perfect:-

    1 3/4 cups of water
    3 tbsp olive oil
    1 3/4 tbsp honey
    1 tsp salt
    2 cups strong wholemeal flour
    2 cups plain flour
    1/2 tsp dried yeast
    1 crushed vit C tablet

I always make it in the breadmaker, never in the oven... I find that a 50/50 ratio of strong wholemeal to plain flour gets the best consistency

Are you using normal plain flour instead of strong white flour then? Going to try it today.. fingers crossed the kids will like it, trying to get them to eat more wholemeal ;)

Does anyone make their bread by hand?

I have a kitchenaid mixer to help, but I still have not found a recipe that works well for me. I am brilliant at bowling balls!

I have tried a few in the past but none have given me great results.

If anyone has a good by hand recipe that always works, I would much appreciate it

I generally use strong white flour so I have the option to use it for pizza bases... but I've used plain flour before and its come out fine.

On Friday I made the Pan Amasado and the recipe on this thread from lindadykes.

Woo Hoo, I eventually got soft bread. I put fat in the linddykes as I knew it wasn't going to be eaten straight away, and as there are 5 of us digging into it, next time I'll split into 2 loaves instead of 3.

I think what helped make them soft was putting a damp cloth over the top of them when I took them out of the oven.
There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.

are you looking for a wholemeal or a white recipe? if I don't have one you like, thriftlady's bound to have one

I've found that with handmade bread, the flour you use has a direct bearing on the end result

the first time I made bread, I made rolls ... imagine mini-bowling balls? grey inside?
my friends I'd invited round were polite :o

I've gottten better since then though, honest!!! :D

Thanks JoeyG the loaf was brilliant. It tasted great with our homemade lentil soup. DD2 loved it, DD1 still prefers white bread, she still ate 2 slices :D
It makes a difference in the taste with the Vit C and not so much yeast, and the honey was lovely in it as well. Definately my preferred loaf from now on..
    Thanks

Hello Swan, I am looking for a white bread recipe for making by hand please.

I have been and bought some Doves Organic flour. I have put in in the freezer for the night as my last bag had those tiny bugs in it!

There are lots of recipes on this thread but all seem to be for a BM. Would they work by hand as well or are the quatities of liquid to flour different?

    Many thanks

Bootman, I tried this one on Friday, (by hand) and it was lovely.

    Hand made white bread
