Hi team !
Just moved in to a brand new 1 bed with the wife - (new build block, 10 flats in total in the building) in London
The property manager pointed out an Openreach box in a cupboard and said that the internet is all set up - that I just need to contact Openreach to register - and then can move to Sky or Vodafone or whoever after that........and that they can do all this without having to send out an engineer (all remotely connected kind of thing)
Does that sound right?
Trying to find a good deal to sign up for ....... we have a brand new Full Fibre Broadband 1600Mbps very fast line apparently
Expect to be there 1yr - ideally don't want a 24month contract as hoping to buy somewhere approx this time next year (is a 24hr month contract transferable if I move?)
Thanks all !!

No, you contact your preferred supplier and they deal with OpenReach.
Surprised a London flat doesnt have Hyperoptic or equivalent rather than OpenReach1 -
Congratulations on your brand-new flat!Stick your details into one of the comparison sites and see what pops up. Come back here once you've got a shortlist and we can tell you whether the suppliers are below-average, poor or downright terrible(The same advice goes for your Energy query.)N. Hampshire, he/him. Congrats OP!
I've been using Hyperoptic for the past 4-5 years and it's been great.
I initially signed-up for a 1-year contract, which becomes a "monthly rolling" at the end of your 12th month if you don't want to renew a yearly contract. You can then cancel your monthly rolling with a 1-month notice. (Similar to you, I also had plans to move again after 1 year)1 -
Try https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/compare-broadband-deals/ and see what's available. No one gets to speak to Openreach directly as they're not customer facing, so they were telling you nonsense there. Short term deals (12 months or less) will cost you more.1

FYI , BT have 12 month deals , not just 24 month but they are more expensive, £6 difference on the ‘essentials’ broadband between 12 and 24 months , BT also do arrange home movers so you could take a longer contract and move it to the new address , provided the new address also had Openreach ,( not just FTTP but copper pair service as well if that’s what the new address had ) .
As stated , it’s nonsense that you call Openreach then a provider, if the ONT PON light is lit and steady green nothing more for Openreach to do , you just call the provider of your choice1 -
Thanks team !
Great to have a clarification on that Openreach thing
Anyway - regarding FTTP deals I can get (btw - no shade, but the MSE Broadband searcher wasn't helpful at all) I found these:
EE - 12 month, £45/month - 900mbps - no start up cost
BT Broadband - 12 month, £55/month - 900mbps -£42 start up cost
Sky - 24 month only, £38/month - 900mbps -£5 start up cost
Ghost - 12 month, £58/month - 1000mbps - no start up cost
Plusnet - 12 month, £41/month - 900mbps - no start up cost
Hyperoptic - Not sure, had to email them as my address not on their website
Vodafone have decided for some reason that my My Vodafone account doesn't exist any more.....so I can't see the deal they would give me as a member (strongly considering ditching them as my mobile provider too as the coverage has been awful recently)

Those all sound quite expensive. I'd have expected you to be able to get something for less than £39 a month. The MSE tool might not have been any use but have you tried uSwitch? Or the Meerkats? Also, take a look at TopCashback and Quidco and see if they have any useful cashback offers.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. BT, EE, and Plusnet are all the same company.
BT don't even do sales to the public anymore, so probably forget that.
Do you need that fast BB ? in a Flat? 75Mbps should be sufficient. Which you can get for nearer £25 (if you can get a vodafone deal).
Out of that list, I would go with Sky

They all expensive, the speed you have set is the reason.
You could get away with 40Mb1 -
OP FTTP starts at 74Mbps.1
