So here's the wording in the T's&C's

The problem is "who" decides if it is the same or higher standard or if it is a lower standard.

Personally I think it is clearly a lower standard but so far they are still not budging.

Have you read the Package and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 to see if they make it any clearer?

From your screenshot easyJet have sold you it as one room which is why I guess they don't consider it a significant change.

The regulations don't seem to make it clear.

However, it is sold as 1 interconnecting room not 1 room. 1 interconnecting room is 2 rooms with a connecting door as per the screenshot. If my confirmation said 1 room then fair enough. But the old confirmation says 1 interconnecting room and the new 1 says 1 standard double room. They are surely not the same type.

And to rub salt into the wound - 2 seperate rooms is cheaper than 1 interconnecting room!

They're trying to get away with it so as not to incur additional costs (imo).

I'm a bit confused now, maybe I've missed something ?
I thought you were being offered equivalent accommodation to that which you booked , albeit at another hotel, at a reduced cost.
So, are Easyjet digging their heels in and not accepting that you have a case ?
I have a very low opinion of them - however my prejudice is irrelevant to the issues.

No no - you've not missed anything.

I can change my hotel/holiday - I have found something so if need be that's still an option. Yes it's cheaper - but it's B&B v All-inclusive so will end up more expensive.

But they won't do anything regarding my existing booking which would allow us to go to the original destination.

That said I have another easyjet holidays booking for next year - I've done a quick search and can now do the same holiday for £200 less - so I'm going to cancel it and put that money towards this year's holiday.

So well done Easyjet - your customer service  will have cost you £1,300 of my business from the cancellation and the change this year, and doubtless thousands from future years!

Thanks for the clarification - I hadn't clocked the B&B/AI aspect.
Perhaps the hotel you are now booking will offer AI as an add on when you get there - without any need to go through Easyjet ?
We always go HB - but most hotels have had an AI supplement option on arrival if appropriate.
One more point - be certain beforehand that you can cancel a reservation with Easyjet and subsequently rebook at a lower cost.
Are there not T's&C's they can use to prevent that ?
If memory serves people have previously mentioned this scenario on these forums - although I think it was TUI that were the target for complaints.
Probably their invariable refusal to refund deposits on original bookings which causes the issue when somebody wants to rebook.
Not sure if that is Easyjet policy likewise though.

It seems they allow a lower cost change provided I do it over the phone. The whole thing is  just ridiculous though - more so when we paid extra for the interconnecting rooms to ensure we didn't get 2 double rooms at opposite ends of the hotel.

What frustrates me is "the script" - "our policy says you booked one room so the change is for one room" - and there is no discussion etc. I'm pretty certain a court of law would see it as accommodation of a lower category - but do I take the risk? Ultimately that's what these companies rely on isn't it?

So this afternoon we'll cancel next year's trip and use that money (£260 deposit) to put towards food etc - that sum with the lower amount of the new holiday will provide us with between £800 and £900 for lunch/dinner etc for the week. The balance I had been due to pay for next year's trip to Krakow is give or take exactly the same as I've found online today. So all in all I'll probably end up paying the same amount for the two trips but Easyjet will end up getting about £1400 less off me.

Even better is the fact that the original and changed hotel have had absolute slatings on Tripadvisor this year, whereas the new one has excellent reviews. Easyjet have also lost my business and indeed that of a few friends and colleagues who have decided they now won't book with them as a result of what has happened.

I know it's a little childish of me, but if it feels like a win for me, I'll settle for that!

Absolutely nothing childish about it - they are happy to suck in your money, so if/when you get the opportunity don't feel guilty where their intransigence has been to your advantage.
BTW Krakow is a great visit - off the plane, down to the lower level train station and regular service into the city for a very acceptable ticket price.........on very modern carriages.

    Oh the farce continues....

"Sorry the discounted price is only available for new bookings - as this is a change you're not entitled to the £200 discount".

"So it's cheaper for me to cancel and re-book?"

    "Yes that would be correct".

    Astonishing!
