Need broadband but no fibre in my area

Options
My contract with talktalk is coming up for renewal but when I go on the price comparison tool all the providers are saying fibre even though I have put my postcode in - there is no sign of fibre coming here anytime soon so how can I compare tariffs - or am I missing something

"Fibre" has been abused by marketing people and doesn't mean what most people would think. You don't need to have an optical fibre installed to your house to get "fibre".
What sort of deals are you being offered? Slower ones at around 30 Mbps and faster ones around 60 Mbps? Or something else?
And what do you have at the moment with TalkTalk?

What makes you so sure ‘fibre’ isn’t available in your area , currently about 70% of addresses in the UK have  access to FTTP from someone ,(Virgin , Openreach or an Alt Net) ,  not necessarily from Talk Talk or their underlying network provider but from someone , and as stated , ‘fibre’ in advertising can mean part fibre ( hybrid copper / fibre ) as well as full fibre where the fibre is installed up to the premises , but that’s been available for decades , TT call it ‘fibre’ , chances are you are already on FTTC (fibre to the cabinet)

when I do a price comparison it says 61 mb on average for same price as talk talk do I believe that another provider can sort out the speed issue in my remote area? I just don't know and can't decide because I don't fully understand it!

It sounds as though you're currently on ADSL and you're being offered FTTC/SOGEA.
Is 61Mb being shown as the guaranteed minimum speed? If not, what's the guaranteed minimum (if any)?

this is what Sky says Average 61Mb download speed
We've not been able to determine the exact download speed at your address, but this is the average speed received by at least 50% of households between 8pm and 10pm - when most people are online. You may get faster or slower speeds than this depending on time and location.

Average 16Mb upload speedThis relates to how quickly you can upload files.

basically they all say that - I also have to have a telephone line because the signal on my phone is virtually non existent in my house and if I call using wifi it keeps dropping off so not sure anything is going to solve my problem tbh!

Ok, try putting your phone number into the BT Wholesale tool here:
If possible, screenshot the output and share it here (you can delete any personal details first).
