Minimum Currency Exchange

Options
Is there a minimum amount of currency The Post Office will exchange?
And what do they charge?

I have a €5 I found in an old wallet and just wondered if I could take it into The Post Office to change it to £.

I don't believe there is a minimum in the branch, though I have a faint memory of being told they will only change back notes and not coins?

They don't charge a fee, they just offer poor rates, especially on the way back.

Should pay for your Tesco meal deal at least.

I think any travel agent or foreign currency provider will buy back - but rates are to their advantage - I wouldn't go out of my way to redeem €5 to £? - just if passing a TA shop etc.
You'll get £3.86 at today's rate from the PO according to their website.

It depends how you value your time.  Is it really worth travelling to the shop to get a few pounds?

Perhaps not travelling to a shop specifically JUST to exchange the money but if I’m planning on a trip where I’ll pass a post office - maybe 10 minutes to pop in and get €5 exchanged into £3 is well worth my time I’d say 🙂

Do you have any friends, work colleagues or family who are planning a summer holiday to the Eurozone?
One of my office mates had a leftover €10 note. I think I gave him £8 for it and we were both happy.
