easyJet Compensation Rejected

Options
I recently had a near 13 hour delay for a flight from Inverness to Luton which was caused due to a technical issue with the plane. easyJet are claiming this isn't something they're responsible for as they're blaming the airport for the issue.

Does anyone know if it's worth arguing this, and if so what the best angle to do so would be?

Flight was on the 27/5/25 (EZY622).

The response I got from easyJet is below.

Thank you for getting in touch. We’re very sorry that your flight from Inverness (INV) to London Luton (LTN) was delayed.
We always review claims fairly and in keeping with EU/UK regulation. We know how frustrating delays can be. We always aim to provide the best possible experience when flying with us, however, from time-to-time situations arise which are outside of our control and unfortunately when this happens we are unable to offer compensation.

To further explain what happened on the day; the Ground Power Unit supplied by the airport caused a power trip on the aircraft. Once parked in the gate area, the damage to the aircraft had to be assessed. This caused extended delays to your flight. Ultimately and in the case of this flight, the delays pushed our crew into their maximum legal operating hours. There are strict industry wide rules on the number of hours our crew are allowed to work. To protect the safety of our customers and crew, these hours cannot be exceeded. We do take reasonable measures to avoid cancellations and delays to our flights by having replacement crews and spare aircraft available in our network. In the circumstances, these options were not possible as higher than expected levels of disruption to our network meant that our replacement crew and spare aircraft had already been deployed.

Thanks in advance.

The root cause of the problem was the airport's equipment malfunctioning. No one is blaming anybody for anything.  Equipment does break down on occasions.
  • The devil is in the detail, you need to search cases to see if this counts, but on first read the original problem is not their fault, everything after their reason for the technical fault is irrelevant.
  • Hi Bevan88 i was on that delayed flight too from inv to Luton 27th May and have had the exactly the same response to my claim.
Just to find out a bit more I contacted Inverness airport HIAL and asked if they had a problem with their power unit that day and i received two emails to say that they had NO reported problems on that date and no airfield userviceablities and ooerated as normal.
It sounds to me that Easyjet are trying to pass the buck.
The other thing easyjet mentioned was that all their crew and planes had already been deployed therefore out with their control but they obviously were not updated because in actual fact as you know we were finally flown on a different aircraft and new crew although nearly 13 hrs later making us arrive on the 28th and causing all sorts of ongoing problems for everyone involved.
I understand unexpected things can happen but feel every passenger deserve compensation on that flight especially the really young families.
I have still to reply to easyjet again but wonder on any thoughts re info from airport.
    Thanks.
