Kleenex Mansized

Options
I know that Kleenex dropped the branding "Mansized" because it was considered to be sexist. I am more concerned about the quality of the product: did it used to be far stronger in years gone by? I now prefer the thinner kitchen roll over Kleenex. I also avoid the various impregnated tissues. Does anyone else feel that Kleenex is not as strong as it used to be?

I confess I hadn't spotted the change of branding, but I agree with you that it is far thinner than it used to be, and pretty useless. It's only the larger size which redeems it at all: a 'standard' sized tissue is completely inadequate for one average nose blow when I have the sniffles.

I tried Sainsbury's own brand, same size, as a friend had them, and they seemed OK but actually no better in the longer term. DH gets a bit attached to things, so we're back to Kleenex. I think what I really need is 3-ply - anybody's 3-ply might do the trick.

I do occasionally get the Balsam tissues in winter.

Thank you, Sue. Your observation seems to be similar to mine. The Waitrose Essential kitchen roll is single-ply but very strong and sufficiently gentle on the skin.

Mrs QrizB favours the mansize tissues; I prefer the smaller ones (yes that seems back to front).
I'll have to ask her whether she's noticed a change in quality.

Mrs Sterling likes the mansized tissues, and so does our dog, Twoddle, who likes to tear them up. Let me know what Mrs QrizB thinks.

What size are those please? Are they the mini packs, the 'standard' size, or the large that some of us favour?

    I've consulted!
We remember that Kleenex Mansize used to be three-ply, and think they're now only 2-ply. However we don't have a box of genuine Kleenex ones in the house at present.
Could someone who does have a box please check?

I’ve got a box of the Balsam ones in the size formerly known as Man Size*, and they’re 2-ply. I think it’s weight that has changed rather than ply. In order of wimpiness, the thinnest are Original, then the Extra Large, then the smaller ones you get in Pocket Packs.

    * I can also eat a whole Yorkie.

There are photos of old Kleenex Mansize tissue boxes online (the things this forum makes me search for!) and the definitely used to be three-ply, so they've lost a layer at some point in the past. I can't say how recently it was though.
