  • I don't know if attention has already been drawn to the Tesco clubcard deal which provides HSA level 1 annual cover for a cost of £28.60 in vouchers. This cover, for self, husband and 2 children was previously costing more than £145 pa with another company. Cover is for dental, optical, therapies, hospital stays etc. Seems like a good deal.

Hope I've posted this properly, still a bit of a newb!
  • JF - apologise up front about the stupid question but I don't understand the mechanism of paying £28.60 via the Tesco Clubcard. Do you pay this directly to HSA or Tesco once per year or stage ot monthly? Also do you have to pay £2860 worth of Tesco stuff before qualifying for £28.60 worth of coupons ?

    Cheers

Looking for a dental cashplan and wonder if anyone else has looked into the exclusions. As i am over 35 i would not go for forester
  • I've been with Medicash for 5 years, I pay through my salary but don't get a corporate discount so I'll have to look into that. I can recommend highly (think it's similar to the old 'penny in the pound ' scheme. I pay £13 per month, with the proviso that I couldn't claim for 6 months but after that I could claim 100% of any dental treatment I pay for, and 100% towards opticians bills plus if I was unfortunate to go to hospital I would receive payment for every night spent in hospital and £30 if I attend a day ward as a day patient. There's also death grant so that's handy to pay for the funeral. Not a cheery thought but I'd like to remain an MSE going into the next world!
  • I have had a look at the BHSF fund and it seems quite good but I'm not sure if that is the best in my circumstances.

Unlike you lucky lot I don't have an NHS dentist and I am due for a filling (£160) and ny 6 month check is about £50 (I don't trust dentists and I do this one so it is worth sticking with him for my mental health!). I also wear glasses and get them checked every year (£20) as my eyesight changes every few years. Due to wierd lenses it can cost me over £120 just for the lenses. I also have regular prescription every 4 months or so of about £30...so....

It seems like you can have this covered too but will this be too much? Am I better off getting a full-on insurance scheme?

The even better news is that you can now use your Tesco vouchers to pay for HSA, which as Martin has noted before is the best way to use your vouchers.

You can get HSA Level 1 cover that normally costs £114.40 per annum for £28.60 in vouchers.

So you only need to claim back £28.60 and you are in profit. Looks like a great deal to me!
That's a really good spot. I suspect this would have won Martin's survey if he had worked on a cost of £28.60.

Edit: However, just noticed that this doesn't seem to be a product that they normally sell to customers. Their basic package actually costs £104 pa, and it pays out 75%-100% of costs, not 50%. So, I'm sceptical that the Tesco deal would really have a "normal" price of £114. If you compare it to HSA's own deals, I would say it should probably cost £75. £28 is still a good deal, but not as good as they suggest.

Second edit: I take it back. The basic package on their website is indeed £104, but that's per person. The Tesco deal is per family, so I guess a family of 4 is likely to have 4 times more claims than a single person. So the claimed price of £114 does seem realistic.

  • I want to buy some new glasses that will probably be about £200. Can I join a cashplan for one month, pay one premium and claim? I was looking at Healthsure and it says you can claim straight away for 100% of the cost for glassses. So I could pay £32.89, get £15 M&S vouchers and claim for £200 worth of glasses... am I missing something here!? I have read the t&c and can't see anything about a minimum contract or anything to stop me doing this. Has anyone done this? Where is the catch?! :D

The CATCH IS there is a 13 week qualifying period!! i.e pay for 3 months before a claim can be made. Thats with Healthshield-not sure but think Healthsure are the same
You know what... you can't beat a good bargain!!!
  • No, you can claim straight way. From their website:

    Can I claim straight away?
The sooner you join, the sooner you can claim in almost all treatment areas. The only exceptions are Maternity/Paternity Payments and Redundancy Premium Protection, which have a 12-month qualifying period.

I'm looking at these plans too, having missed the HSA Quidco offer because they wouldn't accept my Nationwide card.
The only catch I see is that you would really have to make 2 MONTHS premium payments, as you have to give 30 days written notice to cancel (from when they RECEIVE it), and I don't think JOINING and CANCELLING on the same day is feasible
Both part of the same group, but in my case the Healthsure premiums offer a better return than HSA (£160/130 optical/dentist against £110/110, around £16pm).
still worth your £51 (66-15) layout.
