Post office error

Options
I recently paid money into my bank account through the post office I counted it and they counted it out £870 later that day I got a phone call to say that it was only £770 I owed them a hundred pound, they stated that they have CCTV proof there was £700 in £20 and £70 in £10 which I knew couldn’t be true as I didn’t have any £10 I had 3 x £50 and £720 in £20 they demand I come back in and they will
show me the CCTV , I had to head home to go in and on my way I received another phone call that they had checked the CCTV again and it was £50 so I didn’t need to come in . Not even an apologies from the owner meanwhile I am left stressed out , apparently she had done this to a few customers surely someone should be looking at her ability to own a post office

It's the Post Office, what do you expect?
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

If they had counted out the cash and given you a receipt is there really anything they could do?

All’s well that ends well. Consider not using the Post Office to deposit cash.

I had the opposite - One of my staff was collecting benefits payments for people I was an appointee for and was given twice the amount in error. Neither he nor the counter staff realised.
I had a heck of a job getting them to take it back again.

It was a mistake. Mistakes happen. Yes an apology would have been preferable but they did let you know as soon as they found out the mistake. I don't think you can rely on hearsay evidence from other people - no-one is going to take "apparently she's done it to other people" as a serious complaint.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I wouldn't tar with the same brush every Post Office. I've never had an issue paying money in via PO, much better than trying to be forced to use a machine at some banks (if your lucky enough to live near a branch)..

If you are concerned take a list of your notes and ask them to sign it as a receipt.

Agreed. I still have to deposit my weekly wages this way, and the current person running the post office near me does it superbly compared to their predecessors. They have one of those money counting machines and the whole process is smooth and very fast.
