Just a couple of things to report.
Went to the dentist earlier in the week for a checkup. Always get cakes in the lovely bakery nearby 😊£2.22
Had to buy a small milk yesterday to last until Monday morning before our 4 nights away.
Also wanted a lemon for Sunday lunch’s Apple Betty, I did not want a bag full 😮 so I bought a lime, we shall see how that tastes. Therefore £1.09 spent in Asda
Takes my total so far to £141.03/£400
Lets hope holiday spends aren’t too crazy 🤭
Have a good week everyone

I had to nip out earlier to collect something from an Argos store within Sainsbury's, so whilst there I spent £5.76 on 300ml double cream, a jar of apple sauce, and 3 litres of my favourite 4x concentrated squash which should last me several months.
I'm a bit cross with myself for buying the apple sauce (to go with tonight's roast pork, YS and frozen after Christmas) because I do have some apples and should probably have made my own, but I just don't feel like it. On the up-and-down grief rollercoaster, this past week has been a bit down so if 67p on a jar of apple sauce helps then I guess that's okay.
Anyhooo, today's spend brings my June total to £21.08/£1509 -
Weekly shop done today. Total is £65.21. As planned we have stuck to one 'outing' to the shops which we do together and we go with a list. We did get a few items that we had forgot to put on the list, like mouthwash.
The big thing we both noticed is how prices are up again. Basic things like onions, greek yoghurt and cream are all up. We managed to balance some of the rises by getting yellow sticker items, like a bag of Spinach which is being used to make a Broccoli and spinach soup today.
Meals this week are:
Sunday & Monday - Sunday roast with dophinoise potatoes and veg
Tuesday & Wednesday - Burgers with HM chips and beans
Thursday - Chicken Fajitas
Friday - Lamb chops with Mash and veg
Lunches for me - The Broccoli & Spinach soup with HM bread to dip in
Lunches for DH - Sausage and onion hot dog rolls.Frugal Living challenge 2025

@C_J - of course buying apple sauce is okay when you don't feel like making it yourself. Be kind to yourself in these first months when you are so newly bereaved and don't worry about the little things, you can get to them later, just keep breathing and putting one foot in front of the other for now.
I have a couple of shopping trips to add to my totals so here goes. First I spent £3.90 at M*rks on 2 x fat free greek style yoghurt and will buy another one when the first one is finished so that their erratic stocking isn't a problem again. Then I went to Mr T's for frozen fruit for my breakfasts and the shelf was completely bare so I bought a hand of bananas instead. While I was there at the very end of the day a lot of things were being marked down and I bought ys baguette, ys lettuce, cc price Lurpak, ys seeded rolls, ys cheese pasties, ys tarragon, ys limes and a tin of black beans which all came to £13.31.
That makes my new GC total £40.66/£150 which isn't bad for this time of the month.
This week's meal plan is
This recipe from Meera Sodha, I haven't got the black rice or the pak choi so I'm planning to substitute them with basmati and lettuce.
Another coleslaw dressed with lime vinaigrette
Meera Sodha's crispy black bean burgers again because they're nice cold as well as hot and so easy and cheap to make
Sesame Crispbreads and hummus to use up the last of the dried chickpeas
Parmesan-Herb Buttermilk Bread to use up the buttermilk from the freezer
If I can find some chicory and a ripe pear I want to make this salad6 -
June Grocery Budget for 2, £150.
We went to Sainsbury’s to look at the clothes.
I bought some duck liver on offer, 300g for £1, (thank you @PipneyJane,) and 500g of thinly cut cooking bacon for £1, and checked the yellow-stickered shelves. A 2kg pack of British chicken thighs was reduced to from £5 to £3.99.
£6.99 - £2.50 in Nectar points from the petrol.
£4.49 spent.
The chicken thighs have been frozen in twos, enough for 9 meals for two. The bacon will be divided into five weekly portions and four frozen. Duck liver and rabbit liver and kidneys were a treat when I had domestic livestock to prepare. I shall freeze some of the liver.Total Spent £25.48

It's been a funny ol week here. I have had a horrible cold ( no temp so pretty sure that's all it is) finally culminating in a migraine this evening. We have continued working through freezer. Still plenty in there to use up this month. It was my birthday yesterday so DS and family traveled to island and took us out for a meal. We had the fish cakes made with left over chip shop fish today. Absolutely delicious and cheap. dH went to Aldi for milk and a cucumber. £2.50 added to spends.
Meals next week. :-
Mon - chicken noodles
Tues - gammon, new pots , peas and sweet corn,
Wed- gammon, egg and chips
Thurs- gammon baked potatoes and salad
Fri - curry and rice for me. DH out
Sat - gammon pasta with cheese sauce.
Sunday- Roast beef and Yorkshires
Gammon and beef joints were bought at Christmas / Easter when half price, then cut in half and frozen.craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £17.98 spent, 102 made and 5 mended,

Hope you feel better soon, @Soontobeoap!
This is just a quick fly-by to record my market spend of £34.50 (bother!) before I forget & lose track again. I'm silly-busy for the rest of June so need to be absolutely rigid about shopping wisely, making menu-plans & sticking to them!Angie - GC Jun 25: £309.06/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)4 -
