Evening all, hope you're all doing well.
I'm very impressed by your Community Fridge haul @C_J, do let me know if the NS recipe tastes good. I never can bear the way he writes them with the amounts of the ingredients mixed in with the text, it always makes me think I'm going to miss something out by mistake and spoil the recipe. I'm definitely going to get to the Community Garage you pointed out to me this Saturday even if I have to forego my lie-in!
Anyway, I made a quick top-up run to M*rks on the way home from walking group today and spent £11 on 4x milk, mushrooms, 2x rolls, lemons, limes, radishes, cucumber, celery, lettuce and tomatoes. Of course they were out of fat free plain greek style yoghurt again so I'll either have to pop across the road this evening and make do with Mr T's version or go out for it first thing tomorrow and have a late breakfast.
The rest of this week's meal plan is
Yoghurt and frozen fruit for all breakfasts
Roasted aubergine, celeriac, swede and spring cabbage to be mixed with spiced bulgur wheat and then dressed with lemon juice to make enough salad for at least four lunches.
Cheese from the cheese shop in the covered market to add to lunchtime salads.
Also green salad for lunches.
And a coleslaw made with red cabbage and carrots and dressed with lime and poppy seed vinaigrette.
Dinners will be the rest of the bean burgers plus a roll and salad and then when they're finished I'll make a mushroom and caramelised onion pissaladiere with the last of the jarred olives on top.
For this week's bake I made a gluten free chocolate biscuit recipe from the Biscuiteers recipe book I bought the other day in a charity shop and cut them out with a clever little cutter gadget I snapped up in yet another chazza yesterday. Here they are being sandwiched together.
And, after all that if you're still reading, my new GC total is £23.45/£150. Hopefully I'll only need yoghurt and milk for the rest of this week which ought to make the total look more thrifty next week.

@C_J - I am beginning to think I need to download your Community Fridge list as my shopping list for the week. It sounds wonderful to me. Wish we had something similar over here.5

@C_J We have several community Fridges here in MK but yours sounds amazing! I think you might be a short distance from me too4

@Soontobeoap I often find Poundland and Savers cheaper for cleaning products, eg my local Poundland sells one Litre bottles of white vinegar at much cheaper prices than the half size one from Sains etc. I am also trying some Aldi daily shower spray at present as well to see how that works.otb666 said:Could not believe elderly relative had 16 creams eclairs in their fridge plus custard creams Victoria sponges and loads of biscults but as they are in their late 90s obviously works for them

DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

I've spent a fairly sensible £46.90 today, between the butchers & W8rose. There'll be a bit more tomorrow at the market; I need to keep that under £30 if at all possible.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)4

I have a stinking cold so DH went shopping alone. 🤦.
Not too bad considering! He went to Aldi and treated himself to some Andrex toilet rolls from the middle aisle. £8.99 for 12. Our double roll Sainsburys own lasted us no time at all last time round. ( Have they been hit by shrinkflation too?) Anyway I am going to use this opportunity to monitor how long they last us against our normal brand. We have lots of people to stay so this will take a mathematical genius but as DH is an accountant I will leave that to him.
Anyway £22.08 spent overall for our staples this week including the loo rolls.craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £25.96 spent, 128 made and 5 mended,

Budget for June £150.
DH bought milk on Tuesday £3.10 spent.
5th June. First grocery shop of the month.
Aldi £17.89. I bought English apples, (Aldi Super 6 offer at 59p.) I had the very last foraged one, stored from September, for breakfast today. The pepper was 49p. I remembered the carrots after the photograph.
DH will eat fruit and vegetables if I put them in front of him, half an apple, half a banana, half an orange cut into wedges, a few grapes, pomegranate seeds and defrosted blueberries, and little bit of tinned fruit with his muesli for breakfast. A few satsumas in a bowl by his chair. I do a medley of steamed veg with dinner, and a few salad things on the plate with a sandwich, a mini bowl of dried fruit and nuts. Left to himself he would live on toast and marmalade.
I have a small lamb joint for Sunday, cut from a half price leg of lamb, and some kippers to make kedgeree for Friday, and our 4 oz ration of cheese, all from the freezer, and there are always eggs, the old hens laid 14 last week.
Total £20.997 -
£50.40 to add before I forget. I know there are a couple of small spends to add to that but can’t find the receipts and the banking app is Down so can’t check yet.
this year do something that scares you for courage is not the absence of fear just the knowledge that some things are worth the risk6 -
Had a quick pop into Morrisons, I had planned to go to Lidl but seeing as we were between two appointments, one at 10am for a blood test, and another at 11.45 for a GP appointment we decided to kill time between the two by shopping in Morrisons which was 'on the way'.
Today's shop came to £41.10, together with Wednesday's £38.10 shop it totals £79.20.
I'm not planning to shop again until the mid/end of next week. £270-£79.20 leaving £190.80 till the end of the month.6
