Almost everybody who sees this will apply, and end up getting 4p each (I haven’t done the maths, but you get my point).
Theres at least £100M (and potentially £140M, if I've read it right) available to be paid to Joe & Jo Public, and potentially 45M eligible UK residents.
If every single one claims, J&J will get about £3 each.

Is there a trusted website giving the link to the claim site? I know the original post has a link to it but I don't want to just trust Joe & Jo public

I am certain this will be made into multiple news stories on the main site and mentioned repeatedly in the weekly tips email once there is some action to be taken.

As I read the BBC article the eligibility for a payout are vey broad and have limited "personal" element to it - basically having lived in the country for a three month period (within a long qualifying duration) and purchase anything from a retailer that accepts Mastercard (regardless of how paid).
    So it is basically everyone.

I don't understand why the articles refer to a claim rate of 5% meaning £45 per head.  If the eligibility is so easy, why wouldn't everyone simply send the form?

Obviously, if everyone claims, the payment is less - circa £3 each.  If Mastercard have to pay everyone £3 that becomes absurd as the cost of processing the payments will exceed the value of the payments.  In fact, the easiest way to distribute a small amount to everyone from Mastercard would be for Mastercard to make a lump sum payment to HMRC and the result will be more money in the Exchequer so, somewhere in the system, tax rates can be a fraction lower.

These claims always seem to be rather one-sided.  Will any people who had a Mastercard and received rewards for their spending have to repay the reward to Mastercard so that Mastercard can pay out the compensation?

And you have to have been 18+ and UK resident in 2016

So yes, a very high proportion of people are eligible but its always a question of how many people will actually take the time and effort to complete forms and submit evidence of these things for what could be as low as £2.25 per claimant. Some fearmongers will point out you are suddenly giving a firm a large amount of personal data for such a small reword etc.

Not sure what rewards you are talking about? In the UK the card networks themselves dont issue any cards but banks etc are the ones that do and determine any rewards for card ownership. Remember also that the "victims" are all people and not just those who had some form of Mastercard.

The original claim was for all persons since 1992 however Mastercard successfully argued that limitations applied and some claims were statute barred due to the passage of time. The law on limitations is different between Scotland and the rest of the UK hence the difference in time periods.

Get a receipt on email from the period, highly likely you bought 1 thing online at some point

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
