We've had Iittala teema for 20 years - plain white porcelain. Look as good as when bought (unless you drop it, of course) and as it is a classic they are likely to keep making it indefinitely.0

Earthenware, Stoneware, Porcelain, Bone China are collective terms and each cover a range of different substances, when the Mrs had her own studio she had about 50 different types of stoneware clays and each of those could be mixed in different proportions to produce new options. Therefore when people say stoneware is stronger than earthenware its only an in general statement and in practice some are not that far apart
Unless you like the shabby chic look of chipped or are exceptionally careful at all times then daily use of either is not going to result in a lifetime of pristine tableware. As someone who grew up near potteries we always had a best set and a daily set, the later did make it 10 years before it became a problem but then parents bought 7 place settings for a table of 6 so there was a spare of everything but inevitably two side plates were bashed together damaging both.0 -

I have Sophie Conran portmeiron, that seems to still be available in many places to cover the odd dropped item.
Decades ago I had the octagonal shaped plates, can’t remember who made them, I sold them to a china replacement service for more than I paid for them.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I’ve had some stoneware items for decades. They’ve survived many drops and knocks. I’ve had many items made from other clay bodies that haven’t survived the same.0

I have Royal Doulton Augustine Everyday which does wear well, and has for nearly 30 years. Mind you I looked up the Denby Imperial Blue that Slinky has"The occasional thing will get broken if dropped.
