I’ve found the answer yippee just got to get it across to BG now.

They still have my old meter serial number on my bill which measured in imperial this was removed 10 months ago when they fitted the smart meter which now measures in metric. They are still calculating my units used as imperial and not metric.

    Best of luck !

By using the 2.83 imperial to kWh multiplier as well as the untruncated calorific value.

It isn't but it is clear how they have got 13852 kWh from 440.5 units.

    Welcome to the problem.

It isn't shown but it is in the overall result.

If it was shown explicitly you'd know it was wrong.

There showing metric conversion but imperial result

Type it as shown into a calculator = 4892.6 - or do it roughly in your head as a sanity check - ignore the 1.02, 39.1/3.6 approx 11 etc - 11x440 = 4840 etc.

Problem with modern systems - and modern dependence on tech like calculators from early school years - you lose but often still need basic sanity checks to check the output from bad coding or input.

Last time I looked at a Scottish gas summary letter - tge only thing they sent me parents and not assume your logging in to download quarterly statements - they didn't even show the conversion calcs.

    The actual conversions are here

    Or from Google ai at

I know why they got their 13852 figure, I was pointing out that fact that their calculation as shown is totally jackson pollocks, and they should be ashamed to put stuff like that out, and even more so that they billed using their idiot answer.

Is that a common bill format or just sonething customer services put together in a chat.

I wonder what Ofgem would make of it if that's a systemic justification or presentation.

It's certainly worth a formal complaint and reporting.

    Anything other than

    440.5 x 2.83 × 39.1 .....

    Is misleading at best.

But the OP says his meter is m3 so no need for 2.83

But was being billed with the 2.83 accordinb to the above 13,xxx kWh figure when should have been c48xx kWh.

The equation is correct for the op and ahis new metric meter.

    The rhs result is not.

Almost like Cs rep pasted the equation and typed a billed figure - without realising the two do not match.

I've seen that in the past with bill corrections made in a rush.

But given several posts here of people being overbilled you've got to worry how systemic the problem is.

And how many would just accept that equation exactly as is to justify their billing, without doing the maths and over pay.
