Check out the Bangerrnomics thread, it'll give you a good idea of what's what. E.g. my Ford Fusion is now into it's 5th year with me, just passed it's MoT, and has cost in total (inc. buying it) £1415. No DPF diesel, £35 pa tax, around 60mpg and £150 to insure inc. protected ncd.

I put an Alpine DAB & Bluetooth unit in (sits on dash, very small) for hands-free phone and DAB radio, about £60-ish but it works well..

@forgotmyname sorry, you're wrong... in my Fusion's case paying £200 a year tax would have almost doubled the cost of ownership...and what's depreciation????

Bangernomics is the way to go if you can, saves a fortune..

Your calling a Ford Fusion last built about 15 years ago a newish car?

No I'm not, but you only suffer depreciation if you buy a newish car - anything around 10yrs or less is "newish"

    Lol
Does anyone else see it like your phone contract, like pay monthly for a goods and a service?
Can i get a lower value car say 5 to 10k and pay monthly somehow?
Maybe if i lost income a deal where i give the car back, as i can live without one if needed.

Have you ever thought about buying a car from Copart? They handle most of the write-offs in the insurance industry. You can pick up a car that is a Cat N which only has panel damage. It might not be much damage but as the cost of repairing it is more than what the vehicle is worth, it is written off.

I really like the small cars like the aygo or newer like seat mii. Cheap tax 1.0 petrol no turbo, is there anything not to like?
