Thats exactly what i dont want, to worry about the odd scratch! Looks like an older model like a 1.0 petrol or 1.4 tdci and fit a modern radio???
Be careful with an older diesel.
Though they tend to produce lower levels of CO2 emissions and attract less VED, they do tend to produce more NOx and therefore subjected to various low emission zone charging.
If you regularly drive into a city, check first.

Generally, these low emission zones are set at Euro 6 (around 2015) as there's a big difference between permitted NOx levels between Euro 5 and Euro 6.

Only Bristol, Birmingham and London for cars. London has its own scheme (ULEZ) and the other two are "class D" low emission zones, which include cars. Others are class C or B which only apply to commercial vehicles. More info here:

Always makes me smile when someone buys a newish car to save a few £ on the tax.  Depreciation in the first year is probably
6 to 8 years worth of tax.

Ran some insurance quotes on hybrid vehicles and they were shocking.  I can insure high performance and high risk vehicles
for considerably less, even if it's a hybrid that only does sub 40 miles on the battery.

Is it time to change to a pcp/leasing arrangement on a newer /new car which has tax under 35 per year?
Nope!  Your past approach is absolutely the best one.  The amount that you would have saved over the years in depreciation and finance costs is considerable - far more than any extra you will pay in car tax.  (It is a shame that some others cannot see the wisdom of your ways)  You may find a car with bluetooth within your budget, or close to it, as the technology has been in cars for some time now.

Thanks ive had a few different cars, lately a 1.2 corsa petrol, reliable, ok on fuel 40-50 mpg, tax was near 200. Before that 1.4 tdci fiesta which was like a slow tractor but did 50mpg and tax was 30 a year.

Check out the Bangerrnomics thread, it'll give you a good idea of what's what. E.g. my Ford Fusion is now into it's 5th year with me, just passed it's MoT, and has cost in total (inc. buying it) £1415. No DPF diesel, £35 pa tax, around 60mpg and £150 to insure inc. protected ncd.

I put an Alpine DAB & Bluetooth unit in (sits on dash, very small) for hands-free phone and DAB radio, about £60-ish but it works well..

@forgotmyname sorry, you're wrong... in my Fusion's case paying £200 a year tax would have almost doubled the cost of ownership...and what's depreciation????

Bangernomics is the way to go if you can, saves a fortune..

Your calling a Ford Fusion last built about 15 years ago a newish car?

I would also think about adding a Fiat Panda to the list.
Look for the 1.2 FIRE engine cars.
It's actually a really good engine and been around since the 80's without any major problems. Best in Euro 5 spec as they fiddled with them a little for Euro 6, but still a good little motor.

Their only weak points to worry about as they get a little older is the rear axle is prone to rusting.
It's easy to check and not that expensive to replace really, someone makes and sells a better, stronger replacement.
And the engine sump pan can rust, again easy to check and sort but a wipe over with an oily rag when the oil is changed will make it last much longer.

Look for cars with either the Uconnect or Blue & Me features for Bluetooth.
Uconnect is better as the Blue & Me unit is prone to problems.

Later cars came with a dock and cradle on the dash so you can use your phone as a satnav.
