  • I'm visiting London from next Tuesday until the following Sunday. I have a Senior Railcard which I will check is attached to my Oyster card when I arrive. I am still confused after reading most of this thread, whether it is better to use a Travelcard (7 day?) or my Oyster card during my 5 day stay? I don't anticipate going outside Zones 1-2 . Last time I came to London I had a problem, because I used my Oyster card to travel from St.Pancras International to London Bridge by surface train, and couldn't find anywhere to swipe the Oyster card on arrival at LB. Any help would be much appreciated.

Given the discount on the Oyster daily cap, it will be slightly cheaper for you to use that than to buy an undiscounted 7 day card.

I would suspect it might be a little while since you travelled in London - Oyster readers should be everywhere now since the system spread to more of National Rail. You will need to check that your railcard is still on your Oyster - its expiry date may need updating to make the discount work.
  • Thanks for your reply dzug1. How on earth anyone understands this complicated system, I'll never know. I last travelled in London 12 months ago. I should have found an Oyster reader at London Bridge or else asked. Perhaps it was just one of those Senior moments, anyway I shall be more careful this time.

Might as well ask this here rather than anywhere else.

I have two Oyster cards which I use when I go to London. I'm going again at the end of the year with somebody who has a Young Persons railcard. I'm going to lend them one of my oyster cards. Once they have registered the railcard, can the registration be removed once they give the card back to me?
