Oops that should say night rate 17p kWh and 24p kWh in day
17p is quite high for a night rate. If you think you can benefit from E7 (>40% of usage during the night), then there better options out there. With the specialist heat pump tariffs you get some day usage at the off-peak rate too, so have the potential to get the vast majority of usage off-peak, generally at a rate sub-14p, though EDF's own tariff is a bit more expensive because they don't charge a higher peak rate.
Sure but still cheaper than the edf heat pump tariff exclusion free cheaper afternoon. Might just hace to try it and see how I get on I guess

That is a horrible tariff unless you are shifting much usage into off-peak.     We use circa 70% off peak and are on 5p for night rate.

5p is great if your night ratio is high like ours but not if your ratio is say 30% at night.
17p is awful for a high ratio off peak, but would be better at around 30% off peak.

What is your ratio for off peak/peak?

    It is indeed.

However, its only really good if you shift a lot of your use off peak.   The peak rate is higher.

Think of economy 7 rates as a see-saw.   The lower it is on one side, the higher it is on the other.    So, when picking an E7 tariff you really need to know your ratio between off peak and peak to decide whether a super low off peak rate is better than a marginally lower off peak rate.  Or even whether you should be on E7 at all.

Wow 39p peak with utility warehouse! Not sure that works well with a heat pump vs storage heaters

That's why we're all suggesting that E7 might not suit a heat pump.
E7 is generally only cheaper than the equivalent single rate tariff if you can use more electricity in the 7 cheap hours than you can in the expensive 17. Most homes won't maintain a comfortable temperature in winter for 17 hours without heating.
E7 might work for you in the summer, when you're only using the heat pump for to heat the hot water tank. But when winter comes around you'll want to run the heat pump during those expensive hours.
