I’ve now received the DQ from the courts. Is it still possible that they will discontinue the case after this point or does this definitely mean a court hearing? At what point in the process is it allocated to the small claims track?

The claimants can discontinue at any point up to the hearing. It's not unheard of for discontinuations to occur the day before the hearing. The case will be allocated after the court receives your DQ. One of the questions on the DQ is which court you would prefer the case to be allocated to. As a defendant and litigant-in-person they should allocate it to your local court.

Generally speaking,  discontinuations tend to happen just before they have to pay the hearing fee,  plus they have to provide their WS bundle too, meaning paying out money and extra work,  or discontinuing instead

So until that point,  there is no pressing reasons to discontinue, so they won't

Your eventual court order letter will set out those deadlines,  deadlines for both sides, plus a pencilled in hearing date too

Thank you. Should my DQ be shown on MCOL? I submitted it on 25/06/25 but not received any acknowledgement or further correspondence since (other than the usual auto reply). I just logged onto MCOL to check it's there and it says:

Your defence was received on 14/05/2025 at 12:05:08
DQ sent to you on 09/06/2025
DQ filed by claimant on 09/06/2025
DQ filed by claimant on 07/07/2025

Why would the claimant file another DQ?
