Just to add to this, I called PlusNet to ask why they can't supply Broadband and they told me its because of the removal of telephone services, BT, apparently,  will not accept any orders for copper wire phone lines in that exchange.

So they appear to have recreated their monopoly with the excuse that it due to the shutting down of copper wire phone lines, no wonder they keep delaying the switch off.

I don't think she's tied to BT at all it's simply there's nobody else interested in supplying a better service.

She is very much tied to BT, it's not that nobody is interested in supplying a service, it's that BT will not allow anyone else to take over the line. They have slapped a "no new sales" on the exchange until digital voice is rolled out, it's not even a capacity issue.
PlusNet would be happy to supply services but they are not allowed to.

If the DSL checker is unedited, then there are some peculiarities, it shows the customer is served via a cabinet (cabinet2) but apparently has no FTTC available from anyone including BT , yet they cannot be on a massively long line as the recorded ADSL speed (that’s exchange based broadband) is recorded as 11.33Mb , which is reasonable for exchange based broadband , that speed puts the customer at around 2.5 kilometres from the exchange, and is way better than the estimate.

FWIW , the table shows SoADSL2+ and SoADSL Max are available, other providers as well as BT can offer service over this technology if they so desire, it’s nonsense to say no copper pair orders can be taken , no WLR is the cases , SoADSL just means no PSTN telephone, the table clearly shows ‘ADSL’  as available. so no reason why ISP other than BT can offer services.

if Cabinet 2 hasn’t got FTTC presumably there are very few customers on it , so the economics never stacked  up to for Openreach to provide FTTC , that was in the past and these days FTTC is a dead end technology so not likely to ever be provided now …..personally I’d check neighbouring properties, if they can get FTTC , it’s more likely that your relatives addresses ‘data’ is incorrect on the OR/BTw systems that’s why FTTC isn’t showing as available.

I can try calling some more, but PlusNet said BT will not allow new orders at that exchange and no matter which company I try online they all come up that they can't supply the property.

According to that first (out of date) checker, the exchange is 3.07km away.

Regarding what you were told by Plusnet, hats not quite right. Its not possible to order a new analogue phone service, only digital voice or equivalent. Plusnet, which is a BT brand, no longer offers voice services to new customers, only broadband. Does your mother need a phone service? If she does, then that would rule Plusnet out for that reason alone.

She does need a landline but it can be digital.
I myself use Trooli fibre and they also do not offer voice services at all, not even digital ones. It was not difficult for me to port my landline number to a VoIP provider and the service is incredibly cheep, I pay £1 a month for the number and 0.5p a minute for calls. I could set up similar for mum if Plusnet don't offer digital voice.

I just called Vodafone and they also confirmed they can't supply the property, unlike Plusnet they did not elaborate on the reasons, just that they could not offer a service.

It's pointless me calling anyone else as clearly it's BT or nothing for mum.

Would mobile broadband work? You could port her number to an IP phone?

Unfortunately not it's so rural the signal is very poor, BT have sent an EE mini hub when there have been problems in the past but it's not great. Something like Starlink would be the only option, but the cost is prohibitive.
She has to have Sky tv as she can't get a TV signal there either, it really is very rural.

Also rural and no choice here - there used to be a few, although all BT under a different name and maybe John Lewis who used BT - but just checked again and now only BT is left.

How do you check what is available?
When I use Uswitch or gocompare it gives me a list of providers, its only after I click through it says they can't supply the property. So I literally have to check each one manually.
