Child Benefit was due Monday but came today because of the Bank Holiday (yes, I check my online banking every day!), so have paid £170 to the mortgage today - nice to be able to do it a bit early.

And hopefully (well, with planning ;-) ) there'll be a bit more left over for the mortgage at the end of the month too.
Ali - still pretty much a newbie, need to brush up my MS habits!

    Hello

April is the month where I intend to overpay my £76K mortgage by £650 p/m!
The current DD is for £450 so £1100 p/m should see it paid off in 5 years (on a tracker so if rates go up then so will the payment term!)

We're a couple that just (well did) just waste spare cash, we'd rather, for example buy a tin of white paint even though we'd probably have 3 part used ones in the shed, we're just too lazy to look for it - just one example however we will change this wasteful lazy behaviour!

The 5 year plan will then leave us mortgage free, however this isn't where it ends, once we're mortgage free we will then remortgage by £60K and then be able to buy our dream home! (then pay that off over 5 years too) Suppose we could afford it now however dont fancy the thought of having a £136K mortgage, that's scary !!!!

Just hope we stick to this, yes the holidays will probably go from 1, 2 weeker per year in the sun to maybe 1, 1 weeker every other year but in 10 years time we'll be just the right side of forty with no mortgage !

Let's see if i come back to this trhead in 10 years and lets hope I have a success story to tell!

Dont come back in 10 years skint2008!!
Keep us up to date! Well done on the plan hope it goes well. Have to say though I would be tempted to buy your dream home now as you could probably pay that of within the 10 years and be living in it at the same time...just a thought.

Well, we just sat down and looked at finances...we have approx 6K in savings (currently in - just in case we don't get jobs fund). But if we do get jobs, rather than put it to mortgage we are spending it on the house.

We currently have no decorated rooms and live in our bedroom, because the living room is unlivable in. Then if anything is left over that will go into paying off the mortgage.

Still, at least the value of the house will shoot up...yey

We are both very lucky to be so money savvy. (God how full of ourselves do I sound!!!) lol, I am sorry, don't mean to be, just very proud of ourselves!

Don;t apolgise. You should be VERY proud. 'Trouble is: If everyone was like you- a lot of businesses would be in the **** :T :T :T

The modern (western) world relies on the fact that a lot of people can be convinced to buy lots of "tat" that they can't afford. Great, isn't it????

    Congratulations once again- brilliant effort.

I can afford my tat! It's the husband I'm struggling to fund! Ha ha.

We don't share the same ethics on money. I'm pay off and save save save (with in reason though). And he's ooooh I need new trainers or coat etc...
He's not that bad really, but it annoys me that he spends way more than I do and doesn't even feel guilty about it.

OMG..! It's finally happened the OH just put money in the morgage pig without me actually asking him (or raiding his pockets for pound coins when pretending to snuggle:rolleyes: ). It's going to be a struggle to put in as much at the end of this month as last month but i think theres £40 in there at the moment so every little helps:D. Twinkle i'm totally with you on that except with my hubby it's fishing gear and bait! i just don't understand the fact that he spends probably on average £3000 per year catching fish to take pictures of them and put them back!! drives me crazy!! but it's his hobby so mustn't grumble... he could be out down the pub spending a tenner+ a night on beer or at the football or have other hobbys so i don't suppose it's that bad.
I am now debt free! Whoop whoop! :money::beer:
