Hi,
hope you can all put up with another newbie, I have been lurking around for a while and am a definate MFW!! I am remortgaging tomorrow (120,000) to consolidate a loan and cc's with my mortgage, with the aim of overpaying the mortgage by £200 per month to reduce the term quicker, I will post figures tomorrow and see if I can work out a realistic overpayment amount for the year.... for now anything more than the basic payment will be a bonus. This is the last time I am doing this, I have had my LBM last week and am trying to take some positive steps to sort it all out!!!
Welcome Zavarony - of course we can put up with another newbie! The more the merrier! :T

Well, Ive been today and once the paperwork is all sorted will have (another) brand new mortgage for £120,000 paying £790 per month. The aim is to save £300 per month to pay off the mortgage as a lump sum after 2 years (no overpayment allowed until then), so for 2008 the goal is to save £3000 to overpay with and for 2009 to save £3600.
Fingers crossed xMFW 2010 Challenge (No 68) - £133.29/ £5000MFITT2 Challenge - (No 181) - Target Reduce mortgage to £130,000Mortgage @ 1.8.09 - £161160  @1.12.09 - £159052  @ 1.2.10 £157,3630 -

Thanks for the suggestion, I only wish I was that creative!
Had a good money saving day today, I returned some clothes that I had bought in the sales and really didn't need. So another £80 towards my target. :T Was going to take them back to the Manchester store but decided to go to the Trafford Centre instead because it's free parking, how sad am I?!

Well I am finding in nearly impossible to put any extra money away this month - the curse of January I suppose! I am not really complaining as this Christmas did not involve any credit cards or debt and I have started both overpaying and my savings this year. I do feel like I have stalled though for this month. Never mind, Feb will be a good month - not only is it short but there will be council tax money to add and OH has some extra weekend work lined up. Anyone else out there wishing away their Jan?:rotfl:

Me, I'm wishing Jan, Feb & March away - till the next instalment of the student loan, lol! I have a feeling the whole year is going to hurtle past before we know what's happened. I too am not only getting addicted to overpaying, but also to building savings (for the first time in my life!)
January's a funny month... feelings of a fresh start, but no money to do it on!Live your life until love is found, or love's gonna get you down" (credit to Mika!)0 -
i did put some money onto the visa for xmas purely because it is my cash back visa i had the money but thought no i'll use the visa that way i'll get cash back
...now comes time to pay it and i'm thinking hhhmmmm the money i am putting towards this visa i couldve been putting towards my mortgage:eek: it is a vicious circle... thankfully however have only spent £7 on the visa since jan 1st (had to pay for an internet thing) so next month wont ba no where near as painful (i hope) and i will be able to pay more to the visa...on the good side hubbys wage came in and i have put a bit more to the mortgage yippppeeee:j :j

January's definately a funny month for money saving, but because it's the first month of the challenge it means you really, really, really want to meet that first target.
To achive mine I've found a chunk of money sat dormant in places I wouldn't have previously worried about such as paypal (close to £300), share trading account (£1000), poker sites (still working through these but I think it totals about £500).
I'm shocked and disgusted that I have close to £2000 sat in other peoples account, earning them money and earning me nothing!
But no more - by the end of this month it will be paying off my mortgage (although I'll have to start with nothing again and build up some poker winnings)0
