I would like to join too plz.
Hopefully get rid of our mortgage this year but sadly due to the passing of the father in law.
He had paid off most of his mortgage, had his pension payout due to early retirement and passed away two days later. Very unexpectedly!
Just had probate through and now we are selling his property, a 1 bed bungalow, and my DH and his brother are due to have half the proceeds. Probably about 40 k each after everything is settled.
Not much i know but enough to clear off the rest of our mortgage and save us the next 14 years that was left to run.0 -
FAO the 2008 MFW Newbies
One of the things I am loving about this thread is the chat and discussion about how much we are paying off and when.....up till now I have been updating as we go along when people leave comments. I know I said that I would do it on the 5th of each month but I quite enjoy sharing the excitement of people as they pay so I tend to update there and then!
However.... my poor old brain is getting confused as sometimes the post chats about money paid in, money about to be paid in, money that will be paid in etc so it is not always 100% clear what you want on the list in the first post as your total.
So...... from now on if you would like your total updated in the list on post 1 please PM me and I will change it for you. That way I won't worry about missing a total amongst all the lovely chat that goes on.
You are more than welcome to PM me whenever you want over the month to update your total or indeed join our challenge!

We've been saving for a year so really it is an overpayment for the whole of 2008. I know we are not going to be able to make nowhere near this overpayment next January if at all. I wanted to round it up so did pay a bit more than we had originally intended. I also 'used' the council tax for February and March into that amount.
Well done to everyone who has overpaid this month - every little helps towards the interest.0 -

Having made my first ever overpayment on my mortgage today I have to say I got a bit excited in the bank and started telling the lady behind the counter my future plans to pay off my mortgage early.
She smiled and nodded as if I was slightly lacking in the grey matter but I didn't care IT FELT GREAT!!!
After years of battling with Credit Card debt and even putting £10K of this on the mortgage 2 years ago I feel as though I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel.
I will be really happy when the £10K additional borrowing part of the mortgage is gone as in a way I feel a bit of a fraud claiming that I am paying off my mortgage when infact a large chunk was from Credit Cards.
But at least I now have all the debt in one pot and can really concentrate on getting rid of it.But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0
