First Post- Advice Needed CNBC Claim Form - should I just pay?

DCB Legal have filed a claim form against me for £293.56 (issue date: 16 April 2025) through the Civil National Business Centre. This relates to a parking fine I received on 10 August 2022 for “not displaying a valid pay permit.”
At the time, I appealed directly to the original issuer, Euro Car Parks (£100 charge), explaining that I was using the facilities at Fullwell Cross Leisure Centre and was therefore eligible for free parking (I provided evidence of our usage with date and time). I had simply forgotten to register my vehicle’s details on the tablet.
Euro Car Parks rejected my appeal but offered to reduce the charge to a £20 administration fee, stating that because I hadn’t properly followed the appeals process, the PCN would revert to the full amount if the £20 wasn’t paid. Unfortunately, I didn’t pay the £20 (silly mistake on my part).
Since then, I hadn't received any further communication for around two and a half years—until now with this court claim.
I’m now deciding whether to defend the £293 claim or just pay it.
I would really appreciate any advice—thank you all in advance!

Defend, do not pay the inflated total, even a loss in court would be less, a no brainer
Get the AOS done online
Then adapt the template defence in announcements3 -
@Gr1pr wow Thanks for the super quick response!
I can see there's a few options for the AOS. Probably a stupid question but Im thinking I should defend all of this claim - right?0 -
All explained in the newbies sticky thread in announcements, second post, in the Dropbox link3
-
By the way, I noticed they spelled my name incorrectly on the claim form.
I’m not sure if that could be used as part of my defence, but I’ve already submitted the Acknowledgment of Service (AOS) with my name spelled correctly.1 -
Check that your current V5c log book has the correct spelling and correct details
You were correct in using the correct spelling in the AOS submission1 -
Of course you don't pay0
-
I don’t have the V5C logbook anymore as the car was sold last year.
However, my name was spelled correctly on the logbook, so the error must be due to carelessness on Euro Car Parks’ side.
Anyway, I've filed the AOS. I hope it's okay to post my draft defence here for feedback before I email it to CNBC@justice.gov.uk?0 -
Ecp or DCB Legal carelessness, there being 2 companies involved
That email you quoted above is definitely incorrect
Only post the first few paragraphs of the defence draft, not the rest of it because you only need your homework checking, not coupon mad's2 -
Hmm, that is the correct email according to Coupon Mad's post. So what is the right email to use? Or should I just use the defence form on the MCOL site instead?
And yep, I was only planning to post the first few paragraphs0 -
Its definitely not correct, the first 2 joined up words are missing
Its also correct in the first post in the defence template thread too, in screenshot of all the email addresses, as well as correct in the link you provided
Trust me, it doesn't start with Cnbc
Do not use the MCOL start defence, because the template won't fit and it also messes up the formatting
