the same way that ordinary people do it. They save money so that they can pay it before the previous one is returned. That is how the system operates, your idea appears to be buck the system and hope you get away with it.

how is the landlord supposed to get his last month’s rent AND potentially cost cover for any damages caused to the property?
your view is VERY tenant-only.
What about from the 12+ months rental profit? Surely a landlord is already factoring in some repairs/maintenance to the budget to cover moderate work between tenants. It's different if the tenant destroys the place but the deposit won't cover that anyway.

It's odd thinking now, but it was definitely a thing for a while.
You only get your deposit back some weeks after the tenancy ends anyway, so you use the deposit returned from your previous place (before the current one) to use for the following one. Basically there's always one deposit left in savings except for during moving.0 -
The DPS website shows that "Repayment is in progress" and "Awaiting tenant response". It's been like that for some days now. At the same time the Landlord received a call from the tenant saying he will pay the deposit amount of £1100 and he has the landlord's bank details and he will send them to the DPS.
Doesn't make any sense. The DPS already have the Landlord's bank details. Sounds like the tenant is just trying to fool the landlord into thinking he can cancel the DPS request because the tenant will pay.
Perhaps the tenant knows he won't get his deposit back and is trying to pull a fast one?0
