Wrap your roller sleeves with something like cling film to save cleaning them inbetween coats. Keeping the air off them keeps the paint soft.
The quickest way to clean a roller sleeve is to use a spinner Takes about a minute or 2 to get the sleeves really clean.

How can the painter say he can do it all in one morning?
I totally agree with Doonhamer above having had ceilings mudded & then painted in the past: Best to leave it 24 hours after the fist watered down "mist" coat, then 4 hours between the next coats. If you don't water down the first coat the paint will not stick properly to fresh plaster and can go powdery and flake off.
Personally, I'd get another 2 quotes before getting it painted as imo, it can't be professionally completed and expected to last in single a morning.

If you have never painted before I would recommend you do a small room first.

Do you have a single loo?  Just paint over what is there and see how well you do.

I cannot edge, I've tried different ways and various 'fail safe' methods but regardless of buying high quality masking tape or cheap, taking my time or rushing I end up calling a friend to tidy up what I have done.

I do still paint rooms, I just know my limits.

If you have the money get a decent painter in who is willing to let you stand and watch. Ask questions.
Then try the walls as your first attempt.

Lastly looking at your photo if the walls need doing too then I'd do the whole room white.  Follow the advice on here about the mist coat and 2 solid coats.

Then do a single wall in a colour or wallpaper it to give the room a feature.

Depending how you get on, the rest of the house can fine tune your skills.

    Happy decorating!

I painted our bedroom ceiling after it had been plastered. It's pretty easy really, just very messy as you end up with paint in your hair, on your glasses and all over the floor which you have to be careful not to get on your feet when you leave the room. The most important thing is to start by applying a cost of watered down paint to seal the plaster before you do the main coats. Rollers and trays are very cheap, i just buy several andthrow them away afterwards instead of trying to clean them. I just used a small two step step ladder which was tall enough to let me reach the ceiling.

Put on your favourite music, podcasts, audio book. That will keep you sane.

Put masking tape on the wall edges where it joins the ceiling.
I don't see any point doing that. Just go round the edge of the ceiling with a paint brush painting the top few inches of the wall white too. When you paint the walls go over the white right up to where the wall meets the ceiling.

I am in process of painting a room.  Doing it over a few days. I find cling film very useful to wrap brushes every night.  Plus plastic bags to wrap roller overnight.  I even put plastic bag over paint tray then it can be used several times and for different colours of emulsion i.e. Celing white and walls coloured.  Take your time.  I put on an old pair of socks and thin work gloves whilst painting and take them off when leaving the painted room.  Otherwise you may not realise there is paint on your bare feet till you leave the room!  Spoken from experience.

Or you can just listen to the old fashioned radio !

    Not very environmentally friendly .....

    I thought the same.

You’ve asked about his claim to do it in a day…can’t be done.

Don’t get a quote to ‘paint a ceiling’.  Get a quote to apply a mist coat plus a minimum of 2 further coats.

Also ensure you paint towards or away from the window with strongest daylight.  Paint at 90 degrees to the window and you will see the stripes between roller widths,
I did each coat at 90 degrees to the previous one which seemed to work quite well.

    Hello.
It is not difficult to paint walls and ceilings. It depends on your time and energy to devote to the task. The preparation is tedious as you'll have to first clear the area, wash the walls (if you'll be also painting walls), ceilings, skirtings. You'll need sugar soap, dustsheets, masking tape (to protect plug outlets, skirtings), paint, paint rollers , extension pole, brushes (the small and narrow mostly to go over corners and areas above skirtings, electrical mains), stepladder or a step or a chair depending on how tall you are and the height of the ceilings. Ceilings are a pain to paint, literally, on your neck! The roller extension pole reduces the discomfort on the neck and shoulders.
During the 2nd lockdown I painted our living room, the hallway and my mum's room. Preparing it all was the unpleasant part. It is not a top notch job but it is better than the job that a decorator did on a house I'm looking after at the moment. He charged me not a small sum and left the ceilings very patchy. He was supposed to come over to the house to give another coat of paint on the ceilings and kept postponing or cancelling. I would have done a better job and saved myself several £££s had I painted the rooms by myself. I thought of saving time and energy.
