I got a CIFAS for receiving £85 for jackets

So in October I received £85 on behalf of my friend for jackets that he was selling because he was unable to receive the funds. Monzo asked me what the payment was for and I explained to them providing evidence as to why I received them. Monzo then proceeded to shut my account down and after that my barclays account also got shut down. I was wondering why I was also getting rejected from banks and I decided to check to find out that I have a Misuse of Facility marker when I did not do anything fraudulent. I also need to have an account to receive my student finance and I do not know what to do, this marker has been wrongly placed on me. Any advice?

Receiving funds for the sale of someone else's goods certainly sounds like misuse of a personal bank account.

I don't think you have a leg to stand on and the marker hasn't been placed incorrectly.

The terms and conditions probably prohibit you using your account to receive or hold money that belongs to someone else. Hence mis-use of facility.

It is possible (probable?) that your friend was scamming people. That would be why they could not use their own account, and the scam victims bank would have told Monzo.

Get an instant access building society account if you struggle opening a bank account. Where you are in the country will influence your choice.

I'd say probable. Aside from the friend not having their own account which is highly suspicious in this day and age, you then have Monzo querying an £85 payment which seems a bit extreme, unless something fishy was going on...

Why did the bank have questions about some minuscule £85? The problem is likely to be with the payer's account.
Does the friend really sell any jackets? If he does, nowadays it's very dangerous to receive bank transfers from strangers.

And I don't think that T&C really "prohibit ... using your account to receive or hold money that belongs to someone else" and that this "sounds like misuse of a personal bank account".

I suspect there's a lot more going on here than the OP is telling us.

Reasons why Monzo may close your account immediately.

They'll still do CIFAS checks for Building Society accounts...

It is possible you may be able to open a basic bank account, which should receive your student finances.
    I googled:
    cifas marker basic bank account
Google's reply was that some banks will allow you to open a basic bank account but you would be best placed contacting the bank first.
Google what I did or something similar and take it from there.
PS basic bank accounts don't normally have any overdraft facilities. I don't know if that matters to you. It does matter to some students.
