Standing Charges: Gas & Electricity

I mean, if there's really a desire to move to central Government directly funding the National Grid and distribution networks, so that consumers only pay for the energy used, I'm sure it could be funded.Cutting the personal tax-free allowance by £5k a year would raise an additional £1k a year from the vast majority of adults, working or retired. That might balance the books?Or is that not the sort of thing that everyone is agitating for?N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. The best thing would be s/c's at zero, the first couple of kw/day at half price, then the normal price up to say 10kw/day and above that say double the price. This would force Greenness and lower use into the system. Those with health problems that need constant electric use are already covered by the welfare system, which could possibly be increased a touch to help them out.
Unless you know of a tariff where you pay a fixed amount no matter how much you use. Or is this what you think a fixed tariff is?Life in the slow lane0 -

Hilarious misinformation but if you want a nationalised Grid selling directly to consumers and avoiding the sixty percent cut that energy retailers take then that would be one way to cut both unit prices and eliminate the s/c.1 -
Got a credible source for the hilarious misinformation you seem to have provided about the “sixty percent cut” you claim?2

Energy suppliers to not take "the sixty percent cut", you are one again making things up.3 -
I suppose I might be 60% of retail, or some other percentage that might seem large to someone who doesn't realise there are costs to be paid.1

Cripes. Ten pages of regular posters arguing about standing charges (again).
Is someone waiting just so they can be the one who gets the last word in or something before it can shut down (until the next one that is)?
