I'm about to move in to a new rental and it has LPG, I am very surprised it costs double what mains gas does
The tank outside has AvantiGas sticker so presuming it's them who are currently supplying, I am in the Lancaster area in Lancashire, should I stay with them or are there cheaper suppliers, Is it easy to change over, do they fill up a years worth and I pay monthly or do they come out each month?
Any advice is appreciated, udeally rather have mains gas but don't think that is an option

The sticker means nothing, I have changed many times over the years and my tank still has Listers on it, not been with them for years
You need to find out who owns the tank
You are free to shop around for the best price
You can pay DD if you wish but i much prefer not to
You can have auto topup or ring when the tank is low
depending on the size of the tank and how much you use will affect how often its needs filling, mine last 6 months
At the moment i pay £0.49 a liter
Given the chose i would not rent or buy a house with LPG (or oil) again

Yes unfortunately I mistook LPG for being cheaper but confused that with petrol not mains gas, big mistake. I am actually depserate to move so don't want to not rent this property nowdavid29dpo said:The sticker means nothing, I have changed many times over the years and my tank still has Listers on it, not been with them for years

What are the downsides for you, no doubt cost is the main issue? Why do you prefer not to use DD?
How much do you pay upfront for the 6 months and who is your current supplier? Thanks for all the information you may be able to give me0 -
There's a pinned thread at the top of the forum where people have been comparing their LPG deals:Always compare prices.Contracts are almost always two years long.Try to get a fix for both years, not just the first year.Watch out for clauses that let them increase a "fixed" price.N. No major downsides, I little more difficult to change suppliers perhaps and the costs arnt to bad, but i dont have the house over heated.Jax46 said:

I much prefer to pay for a full filling (1250 liters) when they send the invoice a few weeks later. For the last 30 years this has been late Feb and late November
next door is on auto topup with DD which i am not to keen on due too.......
They are always in credit by a large amount and due to the tank only having a inaccurate gauge you dont know now much the tank has been topped up, you only have the suppliers word for it!! I least i know when its filled from empty i know exactly how much i have had.
I pay nothing upfront
My present supplier is flow-gas but i will be changing when my contract ends and shop around.1 -

You should get that changed as by law the LPG tank must display the safety information of the firm that owns it.david29dpo said:The sticker means nothing, I have changed many times over the years and my tank still has Listers on it, not been with them for years
In an emergency the LPG tank owner needs to be contacted. There must be an emergency contact number both on the tank and also on the external (to the property) Emergency Control Valve.
You should contact the firm that owns the tank to put that right.0 -

As a tenant you may chose an LPG firm rather than sticking with whoever has supplied before. You will sign a 2 year agreement and assuming you move within the 2 years that will be it for you and the next person can start over again.Jax46 said:I'm about to move in to a new rental and it has LPG, I am very surprised it costs double what mains gas does

The tank would be bought from the existing firm (Avanti?) and you would rent it from the new people.
