Sorry for the Carry on title
I have noticed the trend for larger and larger TV's mainly LCD and Plasma and have also noticed that as sizes have increased prices tend to drop to keep the largest at the £1000 mark. ie a year ago 40 inch were 1k and now 50 inch are 1k.
Appreciate this is a very simplistic definition but I remember that old style CRT Tvs rarely went past 32 inches in most homes as the floor would need reinforcing and my question is what size is the max most people could handle.
A year ago I would have said 40 inches but having seen the number of 50 inches flying out the shops this xmas I guess I was wrong.
My question is at what size would you say - that would look silly or would you not. £1000 doesnt seem a lot of money for people to spend on a Tv these days and I guess thats fair if your paying £50 a month on sky you want the best TV to display it on but HOW BIG WOULD YOU GO.
Cheers

Fnar, Fnar! 32 is sensible in the home, 50 is showing off. IHMO, after 37, why not just go for a projector at 90?0

i spent £280 for a 44" rear projection sony 2 years ago and will wait the tech is sorted out properly before i buy.

Can't wait to hear the price at production, considering their 103" is about £45,000."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

i have a 37", and is perfect in my opinion, but again, depends on what size living room you have i suppose.0

I've never really understood it. I think it's a sad obsession with owning things that are bigger and flasher that what was big and flash a year earlier. I watch my DVDs on a 19" LCD monitor and find that plenty good enough. Mind you, my eyesight isn't amazing anyway.Happy chappy0

its down to £23k according to el reg, most of that is r&d and specialist manufacturing, apart from the extra glass (4x 50"ers max) and handeling there isnt really much extra cost. we could see these beast for sale for sale to standard consumers with a 5k pricepoint in a couple of years if there is the demand.0 -
It is all dependent on the size of the room as far as I'm concerned. a huge screen in a small room looks OTT, a mate of mine had a 50" rear projection in his living room and a sofa, that was all he could fit in. On the other hand a small screen in a large room isnt good either. I love home cinema and bought my kit with the size of room in mind I still have a 14" TV in the bed room I am looking to upgrade soon with a 26" but I am thinking it may be a little too big for the room.
I would much prefer to have a nice high quality picture on a decent screen than have a crap picture on a huge screen.0 -
I was checking prices online too and found that I could get a 46inch sony in my price range, great I thought, I went to the shop to have a look and was suprised at just how huge it was in the flesh, I think that if I'd bought it I would need to sit in the kitchen to watch Comfortably, I'm now in two minds between 37 or just go for the huge option.
To be honest I'm a bit worried that I've been suckered into this latest craze, it's not like there are free to air HD channels out there yet, and even when there is it's going to be 1366×768 for a long time yet, ho-hum.There are 10 types of people in the world; those who understand binary and those who don't...0
