I selected the tax refund, entered the 10k amount in box, bank details and submitted, etc.
However, I've had no emails/messages and there is no indication online that the request has been made/received by HMRC.
Should I have received some sort of acknowledgement that I have requested a refund?
I know it's a long wait for the money, but I would at least like to know the request is in the system (tried calling but gave up after 1hr 15mins listening to that groovy music).
Thanks,

From Sept 2021 a new category will appear on WL30; this will be identified with a Reason code of A or H. A work item will be created when an online return is submitted with an employment page, a repayment is calculated as due and there is no issue date for the return (voluntary returns). The No Repayment signal will be automatically set on receipt of the return as the SA record is not live/linked to NPS. This inhibition will prevent duplicate repayments being made from both NPS and SA in cases where an NPS repayment has not been declared on the return at box 1 of TR6.0 -
Any help about Gift Aid contributions would be really appreciated, thank you.On my Self Assessment online form for 2024-2025 (it is a Personal account as I don't have a Business account) I entered what I paid by Standing Order for a 12 month period to the Charity £165 every month - so £1980 for the full tax year.It says this and I'll be glad of any help to understand it:"Your gift aid contributions of £2,475.00 have increased your Scottish basic rate limit."
I only paid the Charity a total of £1980 for the Tax Year. I thought the Charity obtained the tax but I don't understand how my £1980 donation (as the amount I entered on my Self Assessment Form) has become £2475 for the Tax Year 2024-2025. I am a Scottish Basic Rate tax payer.
Could it mean that I have not paid enough Income Tax to cover the money the Charity has requested from HMRC?

Providing you have paid (or will per your Self Assessment calculation) at least £495 in tax then that is all you need to do.
If you were only due to pay say £400 then you should see £95 added to your Self Assessment liability to make yo the shortfall.1 -
Thanks very much for explaining that, Dazed_and_C0nfused. I really appreciate your help.
My Self Assessment "Bill" for 2024-2025 includes the submission I made for my Survey income as well as comp[eting all the other questions fully, including Pension Income, and (I will pay this soon) is £419.62. So my Self Assessment Income tax is less than the £450 you mention.
I paid "PAYE" for my Pension income and from my P60 for 2024-2025 I paid PAYE Tax of £1331.12.
Does this mean that I will have to pay a bit more to make up the shortfall because my Self Assessment "Bill" is £30.38 short of the £450 or will HMRC take into consideration the £1331.12 I have already paid in PAYE Income tax for 2024-2025?
I apologize for asking another question, and hope it's O.K. I have increased my Standing Order to the Charity to £175 every month for the twelve months 2025-2026 - so that should amount to, net, £2,100. How much self assessment tax would I have to pay to cover this increase? If essential I could reduce the amount of the Standing Order but I would prefer not to.
I've been doing this most of the day, with papers all over the floor as my table is not big enough. I'm beginning to wilt. I'lll be going to bed now and will look again tomorrow.
Thank you very much for your very knowledgeable help, Dazed_and_C0nfused.

you have paid 1331 + 419 = 1,750.in tax to HMRC for 24/25 against which the charity will seek to claim back around £495 for your gift aid contribution leaving HMRC still holding 1,255 of net tax that you have paid
same principle is 25/26, your gift aid payment is deemed to be made from money that has "already" had 20% tax deducted from it, ie your net payment equates to 80% of what you could have paid if you had received your income without any tax deducted from it. Hence the actual cash amount you paid is "grossed up" to give the amount of tax that that charity can claim at the basic tax 20% rate so (2,100 / 80) x 100 = 2,625 gross value and thus 525 in tax. The principle of gift aid is that the amount of money received by the charity equates to the total you would have paid if you had been able to do so before any tax was deducted from it, ie paid from pre tax "gross" rather than post tax "net" income (but restricted to 20% tax only)
In your case, as long as you have your PAYE job that incurs tax paid into the £0,000 for 25/26, you have no risk at all of having tax clawed back from you for making gift aid of as little as 175 pcm. With your PAYE standing at around 1,300 per year you could increase your gift aid to nearly £5,200 pa (433 per month) and your PAYE would still be enough to cover that tax claim without having to even consider including any extra tax you paid on the self assessment "bill".1 -
Thanks very much Bookworm225. That's really good to know and I'll keep note of the "workings".I have just now, online from my HMRC Personal Tax Account, paid the requested£419.62 and it's a relief.I am always very appreciative of the great help given so freely on MSE Forums. For this "Gift Aid" issue thank you to yourself, Bookworm225 and to Dazed_and_C0nfused for giving all this detailed information and the time you have given. I feel much better now!

Finally mine is now showing as payment issued 8th June. I got selected for security / compliance checks. I submitted on 7th April so 9 weeks in total for it to be sorted. I was expecting longer so pleased to now see it as payment issued. Money should be in bank tomorrow. Roll on next year when the fun begins again.

Hi, I’m looking for some guidance regarding my HMRC Self Assessment refund.I was showing as in credit on my account and requested a refund via bank transfer through the HMRC app last Saturday. I then called HMRC on Tuesday as the account still showed the credit. I was informed that someone had processed something on Monday and that I should receive the refund by Friday. However, when I called again today, I was told by another adviser that nothing had actually been done. I was transferred to the Self Assessment team, who took my bank details again and said they would now process the refund manually. I was advised it would take up to 10 days.My account still shows the credit and I’m now confused about the status of my refund. Can someone please clarify what’s happening and when I can expect the money to reach my account? Thanks in advance for your help.0

I would do nothing but wait, unfortunately. As many on here will confirm - 10 was today’s number! They could said 7, or 30 or 47 - but it got you off the phone. In summary - the person that you spoke to is a call handler and has zero control over the timing of your repayment and probably just as much knowledge.1 -
