Hi I had an email this morning from ClearScore saying my scores gone down. Check it and there’s a CCJ on there which I’ve got no idea about. I’ve just broke down crying, I’ve had enough of everything. I’m having a tough time with my family life and my debt problems are bad enough as it is but I never expected a ccj, I don’t recognise the amount and the address on it is my previous address which is my parents house. I’ve checked with them and they’ve had no mail  delivered for me .

So please can I ask how do I go about finding what this is and is this allowed to just happen? The amount is 2 grand something. I’m fed up. This is just gonna ruin my chances of everything I don’t know where to start now. I’ll be lucky to get a new phone contract. I am so lost I don’t know what to do I thought things couldn’t get any worse but I was wrong,

“When a lender starts court action, you’ll get letter in the post called a County Court form. It’s important to open this straight away, as you have two weeks to respond. There’s information on how to reply to a County Court form on the

StepChange website.” I’ve been in contact with my parents as I’ve said and they’ve had nothing. The address on the ccj is their address. Help

Do you drive? Is the V5C up to date with your address where you can get mail?

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

Yes and no it’s at previous address. Is it an old parking fine been dragged up do you think?
I’ve had an odd few over the years I’ve just binned and not paid.

The credit file entry will give you the issuing court and the court reference.

What you do is contact the court and ask for the 'particulars of claim'

The courts are notoriously difficult, which is why we've been asking for creditor info to go on the credit file, but it's not happened yet. If this is the County Court Bulk Centre, I can dig out an email address that works.

Most of these turn out to be private parking fines

    Thank you.
i don’t understand though aren’t they meant to send papers out first that they’re issuing court proceedings?

    Yes.

Unfortunately you now have to do the detective work to find out what happened.

Last I heard the court was taking 34 working days to answer an email.

In the meantime you might find the creditor writes to you as the ccj is only a week old.

Oh my goodness what happens in the mean time ? Will the bailiffs come? Do I have any chance of getting this removed? It all seems unfair and extreme

In the meantime the creditor is likely to write to you (using the address they have, not necessarily where you live) requesting payment. They would usually give you every opportunity to reply and make arrangement to pay before taking further action: bailiffs are a fairly extreme thing they could eventually do, but probably there are other things that they would try first if you did not reply.

And yes, there is a process to get the court to "set judgment aside".
