Most of the old timers here shy away from buying shares in individual companies though, because it’s a very risky strategy. The link that eskbanker posted is a very good place to start. Without a plan for the money I would go with a multi asset fund that invests roughly 60% in equities and 40% in bonds. You might want to go with a different proportion. If you’re feeling really adventurous you might want to go with a global tracker, which is 100% equities.0

As I understand it, they have made the ISA alot more flexible so you dont have to even commit to doing it all at once. I'd hate to say the rules just on the glimpses Ive seen, is there a guide on this site somewhere perhaps?
You can get cashback for starters so might as well use that route. Regular investing you should be fine, the current politics will end up destroying cash most of all and good assets efficient products across the world should survive and profit eventually. Focus on six years from now is the ideal, hard to do hard not to look down and see the mess currently.0 -

I was looking more for what to do with money already in an ISA and what you'd look at spending it on.
