                    Hello,
I think I have made a mistake with my car hire. I am currently on holiday and picked up a car using europcar from Faro.
I paid a €300 deposit for the smallest car and I have taken out my own excess insurance. However, I have confused myself about the credit needed for a deposit and the car hire excess.
I only have £500 credit limit, so I thought I was fine taking out a €300 deposit but the excess is €2300 through Europcar! If there is damage when I return, will there be another way to pay? If they try to charge my credit card, then will it decline if it's over my limit?
Please let me know if I have understood this issue correctly.
Thanks

You would be charged on the card you put down if a accident happened.

You could ask them if there would be a way to pay another way if a accident happened, but they may say no. But by default, they use the card they are given for any charges such as excess in a claim.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

If an attempt to charge your card was declined then I'm sure they'd happily accept payment by another means, and personally wouldn't ask them in advance, as there's nothing you can do about it now if you already have the car, assuming you would have liquid funds to make such a payment if required?chairandtable123 said:I only have £500 credit limit, so I thought I was fine taking out a €300 deposit but the excess is €2300 through Europcar!
