EON massive bills since switching

Agree, we can't really comment without seeing the readings. You don't mention the meter being replaced so if it's the same one as when you were with Octopus it's virtually impossible for it to start over reading just because of a change of supplier.
Was your start reading with EON a genuine accurate reading, either from your own reading or from a smart meter, and does it match Octopus' end reading?1 -
I'm wondering if it could be a register 1 v register 2 issue that we've seen before. The OP giving us the final reading from the old supplier and the initial reading from the new supplier would confirm this.
Not sure if the Aclara SGM1411-B has two registers though.0 -
Anyone else here who can post a typical Eon bill please ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

Not sure if the Aclara SGM1411-B has two registers though. All smart meters can support multiple registers by design, and yes, I agree it is worth checking if the meter reading being used for billing corresponds to the Total Import or one of the individual register readings.Octopus will have been billing based on a particular register and E.ON may be using the total import which would cause the first bill to be a lot higher if there had been prior use of a 2nd register at some point, but it wouldn't result in increased use on a second bill, unless the meter was in a 2 register (E7?) mode and Octopus had only been billing it as a single register tariff...

"This is over one month. We aren't high electricity users, there are two of us at work all day not at home. Have checked the meters and the readings are matching. To compare we were with octopus energy in December we used 250 units in total, since we moved in January its been consistently 850 units. The bill has gone from £104 for gas and £80 for electric to £220 for electric and £200 for gas. "
But reading it again now, "ts been consistently 850 units" might indicate further bills, in which case I agree its probably not a register mix-up.

If so how does it compare to your Octopus bills?Would also be good to confirm that E.ON are using smart meter readings not estimates...

Lizzyr80 said:... according to EON our average estimated usage is 6400kwh for Electric and 20819kwh for Gas, this is based on 2 people living in a 3 bed house. Averages online for this size house is 2700kwh for Electric and around 12000kwh for Gas.EON's estimated annual consumption should be more accurate for your particular household than any generic value from the internet, but you don't need estimates. You know (or can calculate) exactly how much energy you used in the past 12 months, simply by comparing last March's meter readings with today's.Averages, however, aren't immediately relevant to this thread. What do your meters read today? What readings did EON use for your bill?

ok here are some comparisons for those who have asked.
Electric usage - Octopus daily unit rate 20.01 kwh used 10.08 cost £2.02 - Eon daily unit rate 22.35 kwh used 16.92 cost £3.78. This is a one day comparison.0 -
@Lizzyr80 What we really need is the core figures from the last bill with your old supplier (start reading and date, end reading and date, whether estimated or actual) and the same from your more recently bill(s).0
