This needs to be a new thread, probably on the Employment Jobseeking and Training board.
In what capacity was he self-employed - was it under the CIS (Construction Industry Scheme)? The normal understanding of self-employment is that you are responsible for paying your own tax, so there may be a misunderstanding somewhere.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
