My dad passed away a few years ago, I am paying a £2500 debt to DWP because my dad had been overpaid when he was in hospital, they say because I was executor to his will it was my responsibility for the debt is this correct do I owe DWP.

His ESTATE was liable for the debt. Did he have assets which exceeded that amount?

No you are not personally liable.

But if you are executor you do have to administer his estate.

Funeral expenses come first. If there is nothing left after this then the debt is written off

I think you're going to need some individual help with this, someone to whom you can show details of what Dad left, what his debts were, and how you sorted things out.

Did I gather you had seen Citizens Advice already? I wonder if one of the debt charities would help you with this: Stepchange or CAP?

    https://www.stepchange.org/

    https://capuk.org/

Are you struggling with debt in other ways? If so, I'm sure it would be worth talking to one of the above.
