Even if the w800i was RS5000 they would still try and get a freebie.
Maybe I am stereotyping on the basis of what my friends and relatives do in India but all my friends have experienced the same thing.
When the Nokia 6600 first came out my friend took one to India for a cousin as a gift. At the time it was one of the best Nokia you could get but the cousin laughed at it and said it was an old model and rubbish. So my friend said if that is your attitude I will keep it and bought it back with him to England.
Last year I got a few Benq Siemens E61's from Virgin for £12.98 or so delivered and they loved them in India. They thought it was the best phone ever as the speaker was so loud when playing MP3.0 -

I think you'd need to provide evidence of the contents and costs etc to make a claim, not 100% though.
I'd say not much point blocking it. As you probably know they can do ANYTHING over there, and if someone did intercept the post and take it they could get it unblocked any use it any way.
It's a shame I didn't see this post earlier. We had a member of our staff from India over for christmas and could probably have arranged for him to take it over and courier it to your friend/relative from there! Would have saved you loads no doubt. He leaves tomorrow evening though so too late now:o

1.The courier service cost much more than the cost of the phone itself.
coming back to 'International signed for' with compensation at loss about £500..............what do they mean?
2.Do we need to provide them evidence of the cost of the contents? or we are eligible for £500 straightaway if it is lost.
3.Is it a good idea to block the phone on posting, then unblock it/
4.Do you know any cheaper courier service?
Thanks for your help
I'm not too sure what couriers would do if your mobile went missing though.0 -
Someone may be able to correct me if I am wrong but I don't think Royal Mail give compensation for mobile phones using their services, i.e International Signed For etc.

I work in a PO I can confirm you cant get compensation for mobile phones using International Signed for.0
